    HELP cucv just quit running

I agree with the fuel return line at the top of the IP. Check the little ball inside the fitting, and blow out your return line. Had this a couple of times...

Don't tell me it's the IP...

Thanks for the suggestions... I've put an electric pump inline before the lift pump. This speeds up the bleeding process etc. So yeah... fuel delivery not a problem. Any ideas about the filter base causing problems?

Don't tell me it's the IP...

Hi there guys! Hot start problem... as described by many on here. Starts like a dream in the morning, but once she's hot... have to crank and crank! With GP's on! Dreading the idea of the injector pump because I lugged my old one on a 12 hour flight, through US customs to get it exchanged in...

Latest news from across the pond in dusty Africa

I'm running an electirc pump and the mechanical one in series. THat way if one lets me down in the bush.. i'm still getting home! THe electric one sure does make bleeding the fuel system so much easier! Hoping to get the roadworthy done this week, then licenced. Then hit the bush and see what...

Latest news from across the pond in dusty Africa

Finally managed to get the "park" to line up on the 700r4. Got full tension on the TV cable on WOT... but it won't settle in OD. Hunts back and fourth between 3rd and OD. Going try loosen the cable a bit. Good news is that the smoke dies away once it's nice and warm. :-D Seems to be happier each...

Thanks, Tried just shifting it straight on the box... had no luck. Chatting to the gent at the transmission shop- advises to turn the propshaft. should then slip into Park. Can then adjust the linkage.. Will try tomorrow night. Charging solution= fuseable link before junction box in engine bay...

Latest news from across the pond in dusty Africa

Firstly a big thanks to everyone that helped with some advice... Managed to take the truck for its maiden voyage to the filling station and back:-DThe smoke seems to be noticeably less once it warms up to operating temps... so holding thumbs on it going away over the next few days. Sadly now the...

    African CUCV smoke trouble

THanks for the background on the 6.2. I also agree that I don't think it's anti-freeze... Distinct smell of diesel. The last thing to really try is the injector pump if the smoke does not clear up in a couple of days of driving around town. Maybe it just needs to get up to operating temps. What...

    African CUCV smoke trouble

THanks for the advice... injectors already been pulled out and bench tested. Cleaned and retested to show that they on form! Truck been sitty for atleast 15 years... showing 46000 miles and looks like first time round the clock. Came with lights on the top so maybe a military police version? Was...

    African CUCV smoke trouble

THe major debate in the African 4x4 world are the Land Cruisers and the Land Rovers... the drivers are die-hard fans of the brands and will never be caught dead driving anything else. My plan is to through a spanner in the works and show the guys that the CUCV will run cirlces around them both...

    African CUCV smoke trouble

Thanks for all the advice... will try out a couple of bottles of injector cleaner and diesel additive. Then give it a good run for a couple of days. Tried looking at the coolant level- seems constant at sitting about an inch below the cap. No sign of bubbles or oil in the coolant. Dipstick also...

    African CUCV smoke trouble

Here some pics of the final product... Military colours not allowed in most African countries due to obvious reasons... Started out white... but then got the stripes that add at least 100hp and 100mph  Interior all stock just recovered or repainted. Dash, steering wheel, sun visors, arm...

    African CUCV smoke trouble

Thanks for the idea, although not seem to be oil being burnt. Oil level not dropped, not a blue smoke either. also seems to be plenty of compression when cranking. I'll try see if i can find any more info on the idea of 2 stroke oil in the fuel... Thanks again

    African CUCV smoke trouble

Sorry missed last part to your reply... Virtually no humidity at all here. Bordering on the Kalahari Desert here. Average temps for summer between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius. Don't think there'll be enough condensation to cause white smoke... Is it worth trying to advance IP enough to try clear...

Born and educated in South Africa, Family all of Zimbabwean origin... now an expatriate in Botswana... Southern Africa just seems to be home! :-D Never been to the states... yet! African CUCV smoke trouble

Yeah, I managed to find a used one in South Africa. And then had it rebuilt. Sadly they stopped the LHD scene in the early 90's... legislation was passed because it was deemed unsafe to be used in a RHD country. People still bringing in engines and parts mainly aimed at the racing scene. Here in...

    African CUCV smoke trouble

Hi Guys, This is officially my first post, as I've been lurking in the shadows taking all the advice on restoring my first M1008. It's been a long process of putting the vehicle back together as we have never had any of these trucks availalbe locally, so parts are scarce and 6.2 knowledge is...
