    Auto Insurance for Military Vehicles

Progressive wouldn't insure my M1008, on account of the VIN saying it's "government" rather than a "C" or a "K." A couple databases run the VIN and it comes up as an S-10. Shrug. Just a matter of calling around, I guess.

front leaf spring sizes? searched already

Actually it's a half ton Blazer. Just like the 1008 is a 1-ton truck. The military rates them at actual capacity of gross less curb, whereas the whole "half ton," "one ton" etc. in regular parlance is just a measure of sizes A, B, C, etc. without much correlation to actual carrying capacity.

    oil

Rotella or whatever other quality diesel oil is cheaper. Running 15W-40 but seriously considering going to 5W-40. Purolator Pure One filter (I get them for all my cars in bulk). Change every 6 months (which for me is about 1000 miles).

    WTS light won't shut off

If you remove the bulb there really isn't much point of keeping the card in there if you're on manual plugs anyway.

    Led - dont do this!

Yeah, the problem is that the excite circuit, in stock form, runs through the dash lights, which is stupid, because a burned out bulb there means non-charging. Since you have the gauge, though, you don't really need the dash warning lights, and it's easy enough to just dummy rig the excite...

Remove card, throw in garbage. Be your own timer. ;)

Very Strange.... M1008's being operated without alternators

I lost my #1 alternator back in mid-November. Finally got it rebuilt three weeks ago or so (preparation for snowfall around here). Ran the truck occasionally (not my daily driver by any stretch, but still use it once every 1-2 weeks for whatever). I didn't run any 12v accessories (using the...

How do you put a radio in?

Only need to worry about it if you do something stupid like wire the radio to a 24v source. Plenty of 12v under the hood, as suggested above, a meter will tell you pretty quick what is what.

    700r t.v. bracket

My understanding is that the generic/universal ones are designed for gas (carb or EFI) applications, and the diesel-specific ones are, well, diesel-specific. Not sure what the differences are, and I'm often wrong.

    700r t.v. bracket

Next to impossible to come by. It was the major hangup in my 700R4 conversion and a minor reason for scrapping the idea.

How do you put a radio in?

Easiest way is to hook to a 12v source (there are plenty of them) and install civilian components from a junkyard truck where necessary. Happens to be the cheapest way, too. Or wire in an inverter and use a home stereo for real oomph.

Big Push of CUCV's now very few ...

Yes, eventually there won't be any more CUCVs coming out. So what? There are plenty in circulation already. The example of the Deuce is a good one, sure there are less coming out, but it's not exactly difficult to find one and they're not exactly million dollar vehicles.

    m1008 charging issues

Have you experienced any other symptoms and/or performed any diagnostics beyond what the stock gauge says? Added resistance in that circuit from years of crud formation could easily show an improper reading. Just get a voltmeter and check it at the batteries with the truck running and you'll...

    Alternator charging too high

Overcharging is a result of a bad voltage regulator. Since this is internal to the alternator, the choices are to A) rebuild or B) replace the affected unit. The one around 14 is fine, the one around 19.6 is bad. Note: This assumes that you are measuring from the output to the isolated ground...

    Engine parts compatibility

Have some more of these, before you run out- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Engine parts compatibility

$150 is worth it. We got an HMMWV motor for $300 recently. Look up what injection pumps go for and make your decision based on that.

    Engine parts compatibility

Waterpumps can be had off the shelf at any auto parts store at any time for these trucks for $50 or so- why would you even consider a used replacement that may/may not be in better/worse condition than yours? As for the IP, it's worth it. Just use your old solenoids (or get new ones) and run it.

*** New Feature - PM Auto Prune

I would appreciate you NOT cleaning out mine. First, I'm quite capable of doing so myself, and second, I have a bunch of PMs saved in there from when a scumbag a$$hole on here ripped me off and never sent me the IP that I sent him money for. I'm saving them in case anything ever comes of the...

    Where's Your License Plate?

Guys, we're talking about CUCVs, which aren't really recognized in public the same way that Deuces are. I'm sure a deuce would get a *bit* more deference than something that looks like (because it IS) a drab/camo'd K30 or Blazer.
