    HMMWV Battery replacements

I took mine to WalMart and was able to talk them into installing 2 group 78 batteries at 50.00 each - with free installation. When I got home I added a couple of 1x4 boards so the top tray would work again. After several years they still work great. I guess I got lucky. They were side posts and...

    M998 HMMWV Frozen Tailgate Hinges

I have a friend with a auto shop in his back yard. He has a tank with some kind of acid that only works when heated. It us used for cleaning engine parts. I would suggest taking the gate off and taking it to a local engine shop in your area and having them hot tank it.

    "Wait" Light not illuminating

I have left the light switch in the blinker and brake mode for weeks and never had a problem. Sounds like you have a problem with the glow plug system. I would start with fully charging each of the batteries. It could have gone out and you not noticed untill the weather cooled off.

Screwed up my starter. Someone familiar with starter internals?

My starter does similar weird stuff when the battery voltage gets low. Try charging each of the batteries till they are fully charged - replace them if they are suspect. I have 2 $50.00 group 78 Walmart batteries that have worked well for over 1 year now.

    Tight Turn Steering Stutter

All the 4wd trucks I have owned have done that when turning sharp in 4wd. The fix is to make wide turns when in 4wd. It is very bad for the front end joints to allow that kind of binding. If you turn sharp in loose dirt you will be able to see the wheels slipping as one tries to spin faster than...

    Problems with rear lights

Sounds like someone put in the wrong bulbs. Make sure the bulb sockets with 2 contacts have bulbs with 2 contacts. If you put a bulb with 1 contact on it in a 2 contact socket it will short out and do all kinds of weird stuff...

    3L80 Rattle

sounds like the flex-plate is rubbing or sometimes they can get cracks and make weird noises. Did you replace the flex plate or just get the trans rebuilt from the torque converter back? When you removed the trans did you just unbolt the torque converter or remove the flexplate also? also some...

    Fuel Cooler Install

You should consider a bypass for use in cold weather. When it gets to cold diesel fuel gets ice crystals that will clog your fuel filters and leave you stranded.

Symptom: engine running fine, losing power for a few seconds, then running fine

Just bypass it. You don't have to remove any parts. Most of mine were bypassed by the military before I got the trucks.

Symptom: engine running fine, losing power for a few seconds, then running fine

If it is a sticky governor you should be able to duplicate the problem by accelerating to 55 or so then slide your foot off the accelerator pedal so it is suddenly released. Then let the truck slow to about 50 or so without touching the accelerator again. Then put the clutch in - if the engine...

Symptom: engine running fine, losing power for a few seconds, then running fine

The first thing that comes to mind is air getting into the system. How is your in tank pump running? if it is turning off for dome reason then it would allow air into the system. Thought about temporarily putting a small 24v light on the electric fuel pump to see if it is turning off?

    Alternator undercharging?

Battery voltage will drop under load and then go back up after the load is removed. There is also a surface charge that will build over a short time ( over night) when a battery sits with no load. It is a sign that your batteries are probably in great condition. The only 2 other things I can...

    Alternator undercharging?

Once both batteries are charged and "topped off" install them. Measure the voltage before turning anything on. It should be around 24-25 volts. Then start the engine turn the headlights and heater fan on. If the voltage is less than the first reading you still have a problem. If it is higher you...

    Alternator undercharging?

Is your battery charger a 12 / 6 volt automatic charger? Before retiring the right battery I would finish charging the left one then connect the two with jumper cables + to + and - to - and charge for about 30 min. Then check the right battery to see if it is venting bulging or getting hot. If...

Needed a little help with a blown tire

Some tractor trailer trucks come with ctis, I am sure if you tell them they will send someone familiar with ctis systems.

    Alternator undercharging?

Remove all batteries and slow charge each one separately, make sure the all are exactly the same including the MFR date code. When you put them back in make sure all the connections are good and snug. Check the cables and make sure they are working properly - sometimes the ends come loose and...

Needed a little help with a blown tire

I am in San Antonio TX, Wichita is far from MT did you drive all the way down to TX in the A3? Probably not the answer you are looking for but if you don't have the tools but have a good spare there are big rig tire places in Wichita that will come out and swap the flat for the spare.
