MEP-802a arrives - might need a little help

This thing was caked with road dust so I wiped around the pan pretty well with a damp cloth - thought about hosing it out but i don't have my casters yet to get it out of the garage. No reset on this unit Guy - it's an 09 and as far as I can see never used. It was a police station Govdeals...

MEP-802a arrives - might need a little help

Hi Mike - I'm in no hurry. Will check voltages on all legs. Will probably change the oil before anything. With only 10 hours I think I'll leave the fuel and air filters for another time. I got the breakin oil you recommended. I'm sure it has breakin oil in it now but I'm thinking it's been...

MEP-802a arrives - might need a little help

Hi Guy - close but no cigar. I removed TB1 and the stock bar is in place. This extra bar has hole spacing a tad wider than the stock one and is bare copper and at least twice the thickness of the stock bar. Both of the nuts are the same thread as the back side TB1 studs however. With the...

MEP-802a arrives - might need a little help

Auctioned 09 vintage 802 arrived on Monday. 10hrs on the clock and apart from some road dust on all the flat surfaces its spanking new. Manual in plastic, ground rods in place on the skid, aux fuel hose and ground wire tie wrapped in door compartment. I was told the 2HN batteries were no good...

    MEP-8xx stainless steel screw information

For those using SS nuts and bolts - I recommend using Tef-gel. This will stop any reaction between the ally and the SS, especially good to use in salt water environment. Ask any aluminum yacht owner. Will also prevent threads gauling.

    MEP-802a best practices

Thanks Daybreak - I've been using your most helpful parts and other threads to learn as much as I can before arrival. All the filters etc are in my Amazon cart. The Fluke is ready to go. Question - at what vintage of build was the 3 amp slow blow fuse mod initiated (if at all) into production...

    MEP-802a best practices

I have a low hours (10) 802 (09 build) unit showing up any day now. Planning to change fluids - who knows how long they've been there but probably original. Have ordered filters and fan belt on Amazon and also plan to change. The set was started a few weeks ago by jumping - no batteries. I...

    Generators at GL ?

House is 4500 sq'. Yes, 16 kW is with everything firing that you may expect on a hot day. Probably even higher if you are using the electric stove and washer dryer. I'm sure with everything firing the meter would go beyond 20 kW but in a hurricane/ emergency situation I'm happy to manage...

    Generators at GL ?

Our house has one of those new fangled digital power meters that has an instantanious kW reading. I've been monitoring it lately to see what size gen to get. It's a pretty big all elec house with 2 x 3 ton ac comps - one for rooms and one for common areas. Meter runs anywhere from 1.6kw with...

Mep belch black smoke for a second on start

Thanks for the confirmation. Looking forwards to getting one but auction pricing has gone nuts with this hurricane season being what it is. Might have to wait a while till things cool off. My wife and I both drive diesel - 335d and GL320 - the PDFs on the modern diesels do an amazing job...

First post newbe here. Thanks to all here for the wealth of info you provide. I hope to contribute when I get my mep-80xx. Looking at a low hour 802a that belches black smoke just for a second on start. Burns clean after a second or so. Normal? Sticky injector? Stand alone unit - no...
