Switch the trans to ATF as soon as possible, you can still buy the filter kit from Allison and the al filter is a Baldwin that is easy to find. It will run quite a bit cooler and a lot more trouble free when you are done. I'm over on the east side of Washington.

Switch to ATF, I use Dex and swap the filters. Never look back. Mine never goes over 200 degrees, even loaded down with tons of gravel.

Awesome, congrats and where are the pictures? The air buzzer does not go off unless the air bleeds down to a lower level. Mine stays up for weeks. Bleed the tanks of water and rusty scunge soon and see if the tank valves leak by. They are under the middle of the truck. If you drain them...

All of the new FMTV have automatics, no doubt the army has really lost the edge. I guess you are Tacti-cool in your A2?

If you could swap gears in the axles I think that would be the way to go as well. The tires really are intended for about 60mph and the wheel would need some real balancing as well.

That was for the original Caterpillar fuel filter that was high mounted on the engine. It is unused on the A3 set-up. The engine is bought as a unit from Cat and installed by AM General. It has fittings and attachments that are not used in every application. Like most truck builders using Cat...

Nobody ever said they did not want help from "A2 owners". Everybody seemed to say that they did not want the devisive and snide comments that you call help. That's different. Good Luck and Best Wishes to you as well.

That's the one. Close it and adjust the regulator to suit your needs and life should be a lot better. JollyRoger, as they say, "Don't go away mad, just go away". I stay out of A2 posts when I do not have useful input. I don't feel the need to call them cheap, or ugly or to comment on some...

Before you start taking things apart for no reason you might want to check a few things. There is a valve on the firewall above the engine in front of the driver, make sure the petcock is closed. This provides air to the steering. If it is still to heavy, there is a regulator on the left...

The trans sounds pretty normal actually. I grilled my brother, he has been a commerical truck mech for twenty years and he is ok with it. I swapped mine back from motor oil to ATF as soon as I got it. That runs a lot cooler and has less chance of failure. You can buy the internal filter and...

If all your tags and probably the manufactor dates on the rims and date of rebuild on the alternator say 1996 then you truck is probably assembled in 1996. They are ALL assembled to the same 1993 specs, safety and emmissions standards no matter when they are built. If you take a look at...

My truck is tagged 9/98. Since the fiscal year for Uncle Sam starts the following month you could argue my truck is 1998 or 1999 made. I'm guessing since the axles tags are 9/98, alternator 9/98, rims stamped 9/98 and about every other date code available including four of the tires is 9/98...

Oh, I switched the trans back to ATF and off motor oil, this is the best idea ever. The trans runs cleaner, cooler and smoother.

Cat recommends one at the 500 hour mark and once every 1000 hours after that. My truck had 490 hours when I bought it. Depending on the Cat dealer or mech it should cost $200-$400 dollars. The A3 does not require a lot of disassembly to get to the engine, unlike many trucks with Cat engines...

Just a really nice overhead, filters, oil, diffs serviced, chasis lubed and trans serviced. It passed emissions when I got it home with flying colors. It is plenty quick for around town driving. Without an overdrive it really rides nice at 48-50 mph or so( about 2500-2600 rpm). Faster than that...

I really like mine, I drove it home from Georgia to Washington state last April. After a day at the Cat dealer and some TLC from an older mech with tons of 3116 experience he announced it was the best running one he had ever scene. I have to agree, after driving 3000 miles this spring and...
