Anyone have numbers for NAPA bulbs for the composite lights in 12v. I need to put 12V bulbs in the 101 trailer.

I found this with a search for "12 volt bulbs trailer", it is just one tidbit of what I found and should help. http://www.garbee.net/~cabell/lightbulbs.htm

An 1157 is a double element 12v bulb(tail and brake/turn) An 1156 is a single element 12v(marker/park). A 1003 is a 12v single element that is less bright than the 1156.
The military bulbs are all single element(action). So you want 2 1156 bulbs(brake/turn, and 2 1003(tail).

I picked up 1156 bulbs today to change out trailer lights to 12V. Fit in socket fine but mil 24V bulb has 2 elements. 1156 has 1 element. Both bulbs have one terminal on base of bulb. For mil do both elements light up (redundance)? This bulb turn signal/flasher and brake lamp? Civ bulb has seperate element for each function as 1157 (and two terminals on base of bulb) as I recall. Does it meet DOT standards that turn signal is not flashing when brake light is on? Can't control 2 functions thru one base terminal. Or am I missing something?

I believe the way the marker light bulbs work with two elements is one is a higher resistance, so when the lower one burns out, the other one kicks in.

We had some bulbs like that on the ship, for the mast top lights. There was even an indicator on the bridge that told you when the bulbs were on the second filiment. When more than half were on the second one, it was time to climb the mast with a bag of bulbs.

Kenny, I've used the 1157s and 1156s in my M101 for several years now. I bought it before I ever had a 24v truck.
