I had hoped to be able to make it to this year's Texas Rally. But you can be sure I have trusted God to light my path and guide my steps.

On one hand, I am sadly announcing that I will NOT be coming, HOWEVER......

On relatively short notice Dianna and I have been invited, along with several other members of our home church, to take a trip to Israel !
We will be staying at a villa in Jerusalem (NOT tourist accommodations) with several side trips to significant Biblical locations around there. Although this will be an extremely economical way to get to the Holy Land, we've still got to direct our travel funds in a focused manner.

I will post more on our trip over in the Chaplains Corner when appropriate and as time permits. I just felt I should officially bow out of this rally in this thread tonight.

Y'all have a blessed and FUN time. I'll stay subscribed to keep informed.

I just got an email from Mullins about registering for the event. Have you guys done that in the past or just convoy over, park together and have an impromptu display?

Lincoln coordinates with Mullins and the museum to register us as a group. That applies to everyone that camps at the Offroad Ranch and convoys to the museum on Saturday. The museum staff saves an area for us to park / display our vehicles.

If anyone plans to camp at the museum or take their vehicle directly to the museum (i.e., as opposed to joining the convoy from the Offroad Ranch), then they need to coordinate directly with the museum staff.

Lincoln - Please chime-in if I misspoke or if you have something to add. I'm not trying to step on your toes Buddy!

Oh, was it mentioned that the convoy from the Offroad Ranch to the museum and back has a police escort? It is an awesome sight when a convoy of MV's blow through all the red lights in College Station with the police escort!

I'm planning on coming down early Saturday morning to meet up with m715mike who is towing my M105A2 GP win back from jeepsinker, who is recovering it from Ft. Puke. I'll probably bring the M934 since the M185's tires are a little suspect. The trailer I won should have an extra set of bows and stakes, at least it did in the GP auction pictures, so if anybody is in need of them, they'll be available. As for me, I need a NICE hardtop for my M934, so if you have one and we can work out a deal, bring it and I'll load it up for the trip home Saturday afternoon.

I'm looking forward to the get-together and hopefully shearerlegal will be there with the 6 NDT tires for my Deuce that I paid him for last year but wasn't able to pick up. I think I'll drop him another PM and see if he's planning on attending and bringing my rubber...

Ft. Puke? Is that a typo or just fond memories of your time at boot camp?

If you get to College Station early enough, you can meet us at the Offroad Ranch and join the convoy to the museum. We usually leave the Offroad Ranch between 0730 and 0800. If not, we'll see you at the museum off of Highway 6.

Last month, I sent shearerlegal a text message giving him a heads up about this thread and the upcoming rally. I didn't hear back from him (I know work can keep him busy). Let me know if you hear from him and he doesn't plan to come to the rally. Maybe I can meet him and fill your trailer up with tires! It wouldn't be the first time Scott and I meet to swap parts.

Mike:

Nope, not a typo, I was a 115lb, pimply faced, worthless POS in Sept. 1969 when I took the bus ride and became a VERY unhappy member of Basic Training Co. C-4-2. My memory isn't worth a **** now but I'll never forget Lt. Pike, D.I.'s Callendrant, Weaver, Mazerkowitz or making my way
"Through these portals pass the best dressed soldiers in the world". Right, lovely place and probably the first step in the last step for lots of the guys I went thru Basic with. Never saw or heard from any of them after Basic and I keep saying I'm going to dig out my C-4-2 yearbook and make a trip to the 'Wall' and see how many of them have their names inscribed there. For certain most of the poor, illiterate, uneducated black and white Southern boys, of which there were many, as they were all sent to "Tigerland" after Basic and then on to the meat grinder most likely.

Anyway, if you do happen to hear from Scott, let him know that I would still like the tires or the $$$ back if he got rid of them. It's all my fault for the long delay and I realize a year is a long time to hold stuff, but life got the best of me, so I don't really have a good excuse other than "Shyte Happens".

Thanks for any help and I look forward to matching faces with names...

Mark

I was at Puke in the '80s. Different decade, same crappy place. I should have known it would be bad when there was a sign on the main road onto base that read "This is a substandard road. The State of LA is not responsible for damage to your vehicle."

Hopefully I'll be picking up (6) 9:00x20 NDT's for my M185A3 at the rally on Saturday, but I can use 3-4 more if they're in 90-100% condition. PM me if you have 'em and you'll be there.

Thanks...

Mark

The convoy through town with the escort really is one of the funnest part of the weekend. Try to make it if you haven't already.

Ok once again I'm being denied the chance of a police escort through College Station. My neurologist office just called and the specialty meds I've been on a waiting list for are arriving this week and I get to start them Monday. The treatment consists of 5 consecutive 7 hour days, 1 hour of prep, 5 STRAIGHT hours of IV, then an hour to see if it kills me or not. So instead of rolling in to the off road park at 5 on the 1st I'll be hooked up like Frankenstein's monster with tubes in my arm.

Mike if you want a Goat ride you better show up at the Temple Air Show. I'm afraid she's heading for the auction block so I can afford a LMTV.

Good luck with the new treatments Mark. Praying for the best outcome possible. Sorry we will miss you.

Yeah, what he said ^^^

Mark, you will be in my prayers and I wish you the best of luck with the treatments! I do want to see your Goat and will look into the air show. As for the convoy through College Station, who knows, maybe you will be in a LMTV for next year's police escorted convoy!

Oh yeah, and for that last hour of your daily treatment... Let's go with the "or not" option!!!

I'll second the "..or not", kinda like having Mark around.
He doesn't fuss too much when you pick really small back roads in N Carolina to haul a Goat down. ;) (In my defense, it looked like a big line on the map!)

Cheers

That's funny. I just read somewhere the other day:

- You know those maps that gas stations used to give away for free?

Apparently all the roads that they highlighted as "major routes" were the ones that mostly had their own gas stations located on them.

Guess it's fair since they handed out the maps for free, but just makes you realize if it's "free" (whatever it is), there's probably a story behind it. That's all. The End.

Just now reading about your procedure, mkcoen (I go backwards through my emails; most recent first).

Hope that all goes without incident. And a prayer too, that it all works out for you. You know it will. Amen

If there is any way we can help Mark. Call, write or just yell real loud. See you in Temple.
Tim, thanks! Best thing anyone could do for me right now is find someone who wants a Goat or a fairly nice Deuce (see my avatar for both). Word I got yesterday on the procedure copay means no LMTV and selling the Goat and Deuce still won't cover but a little more than half of what I'm going to be paying out of pocket. I don't take charity but pitching in your finder's fee for selling one of them would be appreciated.

If the Chaplain's on the thread here and would be willing to start an "mkcoen fund" you can count on an ante from my corner, as long as that doesn't break any rules or anything.
