Well, since the the illumination power runs through the 3-lever switch for dimming purposes only and he doesn't use it, why not bypass the switch altogether, that's all I'm saying...

Electroric Parts spray cleaner works well !! The old green back works well on the old Harley after sitting for long periods also.

I can pull mine apart for you and take some photo's. If I had to guess probally came lose during extreme operation. When was the last time you went for a swim in the truck? Could be water and mud up in there.

You know what the sad part of this thread is? Gimpy probably has a dozen light switches laying around in various states of use/disrepair.

Forget those electronic light switches. It speaks volumes that all the rebuilds of HMMWV's and HEMTT's have the 3 lever switch in them.
Uncle Sam got screwed on those switches.. They look cool, until they stop working, and possibly setting your truck ablaze at thw worst, and least, with no lights what so ever.

While I agree the new ones are crap, that isn't the rebuilds come off the line with the old style.
Since the 3 lever meets the spec, and costs less, using it means more profit for the company doing the rebuild- that is why they use them!

I recall when TVs had mechanical rotary switches for tuners back in the early 60's. My Dad used to spray down the contacts once a year. Then, early 70's I start my career in electronics.
The silicone spray for contact cleaner is still in use today. Great stuff, avoids corrosion, cleans, helps make much better contact. I keep a couple of cans around for all kinds of use, both electrical and mechanica. Available at Radio Shack (ouch), WalMart, or any automotive store. Ace has them as well.
The new style pushbutton switch has had a defect in the early production. They have been modded by the contractor and upgraded. Look for the more recent dates if you purchase one. You don't want an old one. I don't recall the date of the newly produced one right off hand. Short on time to research right now.

From what I have read here, the electronic switch is a very expensive piece of crap. Point taken.

Yeah, I never figured this thread would make it 6 pages. I have other switches, no need for anyone to go out of their way on this. I was just wondering if my issue had happened to anyone else. This is the first time I have had a switch go "partially" out on me, usually they just stop working.

Sorry to say, I swapped it out with out testing. I now have dash lights and all other lights in working condition. I even had the time to re-aim my headlights. Its amazing how far off the passenger side was, and I never noticed it until I installed the LED headlights. Sort of a "night and day" difference, hehe. I did save and tag my 3lever for a tool box backup. If you guys don't have one on the truck, you should think about it. Nothing worse than driving at night and having your lights go out. It would be real easy to have a semi truck mash you without tail lights.
