803a won't restart

Yesterday I started up my 8038 for the first time. It would not restart after it was running for 1015 minutes. It sat for a while and then it would restart. I thought it was an anomaly yesterday. Today I change the oriole to put in break in or oil. Ran it for a wild. Shut it down. And it will not restart at the moment. Fluid, oil, and temperature are fine.

any thoughts?

Did you check to see if the fuel cut-off solenoid is retracting?

Give the TM a look for no start condition troubleshooting. The things we will suggest you do is exactly what you'll see in the TM.

MEP-8xx starting checklist.

Did you look at the simple start-up video?

OK, you have break-in oil in. good

Have you replaced the fuel filters? spin-on water/fuel filter, and cartridge filter? Have you cleaned the inside of the fuel tank? Any crud floating around? Any sand?
After changing these filters, you might have to leave it on prime & run for a while to fill the new filters. (maybe 5 minutes) to be sure.

Check the cartridge fuel filter, that the cup in in the slot all the way around against the little gasket. It sounds like your pump is operating fine, but it could be getting some air pockets in your fuel line.

Starting
turn to prime & run....wait...... turn to start and hold there until you see oil pressure up....wait... ok let it go.

The MEP-8xx engines are sloppy precision. They do not like to sit idle with no load. No-load or little load causes and term known as wet stacking. They operate the best with a 70% load or higher. Do you see a black sludge anywhere around the exhaust? Looks like molasses.

Yes I've seen startup videos. Oil and filters have been changed. Gen has 6 hours on it...but I like to be safe and know I've done it. Fuel tank is clean...I reached in and felt around before I fueled it.

Just read a post on GMG where they describe exactly what I'm going through. They talked about checking the air filter (I haven't done that yet. They mentioned loosening the injectors and notice if the engine looses power or changes (to see if it's a compression issue) and they mentioned checking the screens in the fuel pumps.

I just find it strange that it runs absolutly perfect from a vold start. But won't restart when hot.

I also read "
gmg says:Some of you may want to check the “check valve” in the fuel line just after the 3 filters and before the pump as well. This could stick open or closed do to vacuum pressure. But check your facet screens first!"

the easiest way way to describe what it's doing is that it reacts exactly like if you used the Dead Crank switch to turn over the gen

I think you were reading a passage from the mep-002 and 003A. The mep-803A only has 2 filters. And I do not remember it having. Check valve after the filters. There is a check valve of sorts in the E1 primary fuel pump. Do you have any fuel leaks?

You might be right as I haven't seen any diagrams of any screen on the fuel filters.

And no no I don't have any fuel leaks. I even uncovered the tank to check for leaks on that side...bone dry.

Today's update:
started up and ran perfectly when cold. Let it run for 10-15 min and it started running rough...not holding steady RPM. Turned it off and it would not start again until it cooled. There is no Wetstscking...it had 6hrs. Exhaust is clean.

Im wondering if it could be an injector issue or cylinder?...with heat expansion. But I'd still figure it should restart.

just wondering. do these units have a low oil level shutdown?? i have seen these sensors in other commercial homeowner type generators do this.

They are talking about the 003a. The 803a's do not have screens in the fuel pumps and do not have the check valve.
