Air tank purge valves???

The valves that I put on the air tank are designed to tilt to the side. I originally thought that the valves pulled straight down like a traditional relieve valve but when I got them I noticed that they are designed to pull from an angle and allow the plug mechanism to tilt and release. Otherwise I would have put a 90 deg elbow on the tank to allow for a straight pull.

But just in case I picked up a couple extras.

The kit I have and installed came with drawing, 2-90degree elbows, 2-drains with cables attached, clamp (to hold the cables to the frame) and a ring to pull on. The drawing showed that the elbows with drains needed to point toward the rear of the truck. Then when the cable is pulled from the frame, the drains open and blow back towards the rear axel. I like this setup since there is nothing hanging down too low to be snagged by debris. The lower your valve sits the more vulnerable it is.

My Unimog has a similar set up from the factory.

I see your point about the cables hanging down.

I had shortened up the cables to reduce the chance of that happening, but I may end up using some steel brake line to make a protected wire way for the cable and tuck it up tight to the frame.
