Well I did It again and could not pass this DUKW up. I believe at this point I am going to do a full restoration and paint her in the Iwo Jima colors. The hull has been sandblasted and painted but will require a few rust holes welded up. I hope to try to fire the engine this week it has been rebuilt and just sitting.

Wow, congrats, does that make 2 or 3 dukws for you? I find that they towbar really easily, do you agree? I can pull one with a deuce faster than it can propel itself with the 270.

Well I have owned 6 to date but only currently own 2 at the moment. I just pulled it around the block with the deuce and it did pull good. I need to take it to AAA this week and I'll drag it behind the m813. I also picked up a set of towing lights for a hawser that I can hang off the back.

There is a bunch of great videos there I have never seen. I even found a colorized one with some of the DUKW's painted in the Iwo Jima Camo that will be helpful for the paint job. Here is a few more shots for you.

Ryan,

Very nice rig. Some day.
Can you grab a close up pic of the tow bar connection to the DUKW shackle?
Mine was missing the shackles when I bought it and it towed like crud.
Kept trying to pass me on the way. Finally had to have it flat bedded home.
Thanx.

I will go try to get a picture. I took the DUKW shackels off and machined a set of 5 ton tow bar ends to go directly to the hull. I still need to make some bushings for the ends as the DUKW has 3/4 pins and the 5 tons are 7/8.

Thanks!

I think of all the MV's out there, the only one I'd want more than a DUKW is a UH-1. :D

I keep telling clintogf if I sold both my deuces, the M105 and the Mule and she sold all her deuces and the CUCV we could buy a DUKW.

That's about the time she starts rolling her eyes at me.

Well of the six I have had this one and my other one I currently own are the best. My other one is all original hull no rust and the paint is over 40 years old and looks great. I hope to swim that one for the first time next month.

The DUKW's are still my favorite ride to. I had to buy a duece because I just about doubled the original miles on my DUKW (the one in my signature) in the first year. When I got the brakes all worked out on that on it was my daily driver for three weeks straight. You could not pry me from behind the whee. I was driving it to work, dinner, home depot and even the grocery store.

Ryan,

Thanx for the pix.
I was going to have that done at the truck stop when I had all of my DUKW towing problems but thought that would make the fingers of the toggles to thin. But now I will just get another set of 5 ton shackles and do the same.

As for the steering wheel, not quite yet. That and a couple of the other original cosmetic parts, I am going to hang on to until I need to trade for parts to make her sea worthy. But I will keep you in mind.

Not that far yet,
I haven't even pulled her into the shop yet,
I am still working on my 5t bob and cab stretch project, then comes a new top for the convertible and getting my NW rally vehicle painted. Then the DUKW can see the shop.

I am just bored and curious if you've had a chance to do anything with the old DUKW.

No I have been my own worst enemy lately. Since the last post I have added 4 more tucks to the collection. Every time a new truck shows up the others get put on the back burner. Although I am about to leave here and head to AAA to due a mass registering of trucks and one of those is the DUKW.
