What sealant does everyone recommend for differential install and hubs?

Permetex black (oil resistant) has worked well for me for my 12 hub swaps

Used to use that a lot. It's AWEFUL to clean up if you ever have to go back in there. I personally use The Right Stuff black. It's a "1 minute RTV silicone." Works amazing on SBC china walls.....

Hylomar would be another interesting choice. Also requires a special solvent but it's reusable. It's like the sealant equivalent of velcro.

Made some progress. Made my own extended socket.
And removed up to the brakes.



Strange thing was the inner seal stayed on the shaft and not the hub.

I've heard that happens although mine have come off with the hub so far. I also made my kids learn welding for the hub nut

Good age to get them started. Give them scraps to weld up. Had my grandson run beads on my tractor bucked edge… A LOT of them then we ground them down and shaped a fresh hardened edge…

Anyone know how the ABS sensor comes out? Maybe I need to look harder but I don’t see a screw on mine.

Pull and wiggle essentially. There is a spring clamp holding them in.

Perfect! That was what I needed to know. I was concerned that it was threaded in or something weird.

ABS sensor popped right out. I had to use a small screw driver to get the first 1/8 to move. Also had to use a small pry bar on the brake shoe to get the last 1/8 to clear.

Update….. after a bunch of wiggling, got the intermediate axle 3rd in.

After about an hour of trying, failed to get the front in. It keeps hitting something and I cannot figure out what. Gonna clean the rtv off in the morning and try again.
