Well, I just painted another test piece. I did the best job in prep. Scotch-brite and wipe down with brake clean. The primed with zinc cromate. This one I painted full strength in the shade. It seems like if the metal is hot, it's not as smooth. It still has some texture. I'm going to let it alone for a couple weeks and do some scratch tests. I'm assuming after a full cure, you can use a pressure washer on this paint?

I know this is an incomplete job.... Stripped the cab and painted the inside with Behr 24084. Outside of truck will happen when it warms up. Used a Wagner airless sprayer. I had to thin it, about 10 to 15% to keep the spatter down. The Behr paint is very thick stuff. Just got everything back together and it looks good. I covered the floor in Herculiner and painted right over it.

I know this is an old thread but do you remember how you got that color? do you still have the mix code?

FSS 24084 is the semi gloss version, if it were flat it would be 34084. Tell the people at Home Depot to look up "Competitive paints", scroll down to find "FSS" (Federal Supply Service), select it, then in the number part have them enter '24084' and press enter. Then tell them how many gallons you want.

Thank you. My understanding is the new 24084 is the same as the vietnam era 24087

I'm in the middle of full frame off restoration of a '68 Deuce. While disassembling, I found some of the original era paint under a removed part which appeared in pristine color condition, unexposed to elements or light. This was taken to Home Depot last month and an exact (and I mean exact) color match to the original paint was produced using their color match system instead of going to the competitor color system lists. The attached mix is what I obtained, it is Behr Marquee semi-gloss. I'm very happy with the result. It looks identical to the picture of the dashboard by Privatewrench quoted by RustyEric in the post above. Hope this helps.

Sorry RustyEric... been away for a little while. I did axactly what SCSG-G4 stated to do at home Depot. This is the sticker on top of the can with the color code they mixed. I had him print an extra sticker so I can have more paint mixed without bringing in the can.

I have painted the inside of my bed with the BEHR paint. It will scrape off when the cargo is dirty, or gritty and drug over the bed. But, I have a coat of Rustoleum Rusty Red Primer underneath that and so far it has not had any more rust. If you were to take a picture of the bed from 20 feet up, it would still look 80 percent green. YMMV.

Did you paint the inside of bed? If so, how does it hold up?
I haven't painted the bed yet. I use it frequently to haul and thought I should hold off until I finish some projects around the house. I plan to paint on a bedliner, then cover that with Behr. I did that on floors in the cab, and it came out great.

Another Behr paint job in the books for me. I think this makes 9 or 10.

I didn’t use official colors, this time, I just picked a couple I liked that popped.

I went semi gloss

I barely prep, pressure wash, tape, spray. I’m a sloppy painter and hate doing it. I oversprayed the crap out I’m my tires but I don’t care. I had to finish up to take my daughter to a sleepover.

To me about 8 hours and that because it was below freezing last night and I had to thaw my hose before pressure washing.
