From my experience with GL they could care less....... we have a whole forum catagory basically filled with GL horror stories. They dont care at corporate but I have had nothing but good expereinces with the people at the individual sites.

Lots of people have tried to get GL to do the right thing and change the way they do things and nothing ever changes. Im not saying it isnt a legit gripe because it is but they just dont care and probably arent going to do anything meaningful . dont shoot the messenger just my 2 cents.

the filters can be easily bypassed so you are just running two instead of the stock 3. the fuel cap is a bit harder to fix but i bet ebay has one somewhere.

I have to chime in on this one.
Secury is a Base issue (Bas=Air Force) or a Post issue on Army posts.
On the Air Force side, you go to the OSI, or Office of Special Investigation. These guys spend more time going through the bin lotss at Robins AFB you would think they had nothing better to do. Of course, admittedly, it comes and goes in spurts.
Anyway, the Investigative services for the military compound usually like to hear about thefts. I don't really care to work with policement, nor be any kind of Internet Cop myself, but if anyone ripped me off, I would make darn sure they did their job and investigated, and this includes GL and any back turning they might do when someone they know needs a part here or there. Cameras need be installed at every compound at these sites and the only way it is going to happen is with the squeeky wheel syndrome. It starts by notifying the proper investigative authority, then staying on them, and making the recommendation a security system is in the budget for next year to cut back on some of these thefts and prosecute. I hate a darn thief! Worked hard all my life, no one ever gave me anything, and I would love to hang the guy who takes from me what I worked so hard to earn and pay for. So, if we all stuck together and complained, it gets in the budget.
Nuff squeaking for now....

AlCarp Sir, give em ****, go to the top to report. It appears that is not done enough. I believe in principals too.

Thank you for your service and support back in RVN.
I was one of the guys on the ground in the jungles and rice paddies you might have dropped your ordinance to support.

Nice to know our efforts were appreciated - there was NOTHING more important than doing anything possible to support you guys! I have bounced off nape fireballs, and picked up lots of small arms hits, because that's where you needed us - down in the weeds.
After all, if/when I got back to my ship, I would have a hot shower, hot meal, and a lousy movie to look forward to! But I knew that most of you gents would still be in the mud, dust, and leeches, listening for incoming. You deserved the best we could give you!

i have an idea about a way to solve the euc problem.it involves getting approval before being allowed to purchasing anything.and then you can pickup in a reasonable timeframe.it could be easier for them to have a file as to who is approved.its a pain to constantly resumit these repetivite forms.most people buy the same type of goods.why cant there be a permanent record.? it would qualify repetive buyers of similar transactions.

So, you think we should try to deal with the govt. by being SENSIBLE?!! When is the last time that THAT worked?! It IS worth a shot, though - "nothing ventured, nothing gained".

Of course, there would still remain the problem of unscrupulous previewers liberating whatever they want and somehow feel entitled to - but it WOULD reduce lot time on the site, and subsequent exposure to pilferage.

I'd be interested in hearing what some of you "old heads" have to say about "escorted visits". I'm sure GL wouldn't like it, because it would bump up their personnel costs a little but, perhaps, another 1% on the "buyer's fee" would cover the additional cost to them, and be worthwhile to bidders, if it actually increased security of our "stuff"! Might be a bad idea - what do YOU think?

The problem is not GL, not security, ect, it is a sign of the times, people wenting something for nothing, it does not matter if what thay went belongs to somebody ealse or not, as long as thay went it and dont have to work or pay for it, is OK to take it. this is only going to get WORSE. I can keep on going because I feel a RANT comming on, but I wont, I'll just go out and make the locks are on the gates, the shop is locked, starve the dog a bit so that it will take a bigger bit out of OK TO TAKe ITers, clean and reload

Sadly, I must agree, but I will keep trying, just as one must to eat an elephant - one bite at a time! If we can't "fix" the problem, maybe we can at least reduce it, somewhat, by taking small bites, and working together. Don't roll over - and "keep your powder dry"!

It is NOT a sign of the times, people have been
stealing since there was people.
The military will not help guard or spend any extra money on this. No matter how you feel about this stuff to them it is
excess, surplus, junk they are getting rid of it.
BTW EUC are a requirement from the DOD not G/L. Good Luck on getting them to change.
But here is a solution YOU buy insurance when you are awarded your item then the only cost would be to the ones that feel the need. Wayne

If EVERYONE that suffered a GL THEFT, filled a report with GL and noted on the report that a copy is going to the base commander and one going to base security and anybody on base that should know, Id bet that this will end. because base commanders dont like to be bothered by crap like this and it will make base security look bad, so both will DUMP on GL

Sure, I know G/L and quite a few Police Dept. would like to know how to stop thieves. Please post any and all suggestions, everybody needs for it to stop.
BTW There have been a few posts on here from members about "nice" personnel that has allowed parts to be removed so they could get their trucks going. Go figure.
Wayne
Don't just quote the part you like out of context!

GL frequently has trucks that are too messed up to be on auction by themselves, and are waiting to be grouped together before offering them as a scrap lot. GL owns these trucks, and no bidder has a stake in them. It is perfectly reasonable for GL to take parts off of trucks they own to make things right for a customer that has experienced theft, or damage.

It IS a sign of the times. Theft has always been present, but a larger % of people nowadays are ok with unburdening or making life easier for themselves by burdening someone else. Just because theft was present in the past doesn't mean it hasn't gotten more common. It is part of the shift to the "me" and not "we" mentality. Just saying it cause it's true.

AlCarp I believe your idea of following the chain of command is your best bet.

Certainly some truth to your take on it - no denying. No matter WHAT they are to the military, however, these lots represent value to GL, since they want their buyer's fee, and the higher the winning bid, the more GL gets! It is to their advantage to develop and keep a better reputation with their regular customers - which is YOU gents, not me!

I'm just a guy looking to survive TEOTWAWKI, with a few of the creature comforts that my gensets and a big tank of diesel might provide for me and my kids and grandkids. You can bet that I'll provide MY OWN better security, for them, than GL has, so far, provided for many SS. You deserve better treatment!

What can you tell us about "insurance"? Who might provide that, and how would it work?

To chime in on this point -

STATISTICS speak LOUDLY... If base/post theft numbers go UP, and it's all in one area of the base, it WILL get some ATTENTION.

Beware, however, that if they determine that the problem is CIVILIAN VISITORS, then some genius might decide to further restrict access.

On the other hand.... maybe THIEVES should NOT be recieving EUC CLEARANCES anyway!!!

AHHHH the PARADOX of it all.

I could be wrong, but I'll bet that almost ALL of the pilferage goes out the GL gates, NOT "over the fence".

Simple solution: GL escorts, and perhaps a short form, signed on-scene, by visitor and escort, indicating that the lot was OK, or missing particular parts, at that time. Then, and again at loadout, that the loadout was monitored, and nothing was removed from other lots. That would establish accountability, and GL should be responsible for making losses right. The compound is theirs - and therefore their responsibility!

Hard to argue with THAT logic - I agree, completely! I don't believe that to be what most have been commenting on, however. I'm guessing that it isn't GL who is liberating most of the missing stuff.

First I don't think G/L actually own the stuff, they are just selling it for the government, if they did own it you would get a real title and not the SF-97 saying that you are the first owner since the government.
BUT even if they do own it no one at a base level has the right to give anything there away, that is cheating their employer and the DRMS.. Wayne

All DRMS usable property that is declared surplus (within the categories covered by the CV2 contract) will be sold online and offline by Government Liquidation with the proceeds being split at a pre-determined percentage between the DRMS and Government Liquidation, LLC.
