Its not that close ive been on a folding ladder on my tailgate so i could get where i needed to be to cut and drill the doors i just used a rattle can till i need to mix up a whole gun full of paint for other stuff then i will shoot it to match !
.
Good Deal. I was hopeful.
That would have made for a really bad day!

Those vents are neat. They look a lot like what is on the cab of the 929 Series trucks down near your feet. (Rotated 90°) You haven't had any fun until you have a bunch of jack-booted linemen climb in and out of the truck a few dozen times with dirt on their feet. Then some wisenheimer reaches in and opens the vent. At about 25 or 30 miles an hour - the dirt starts floating around. Gets all in your eyes. (we never screwed with each other - ever!)

Oh, but they would get their revenge (best served cold). I went down the road from Charlotte to Albemarle to repair a truck. Offloaded the tools and parts onto a Deuce from the service truck. Three of us sitting in a cab with no doors. Meandering slowly down the side of a big hill... Off to the right was a derrick close to the side of the path we were on (not a road). Digger was attached to the boom so they weren't digging. Lifting something - that was some sort of woven cable matt. MUCH bigger than the picture below, but you get the idea...

Wire-Blast Matt.jpg

We got right beside the matt and the guy standing there holding a pair of wires and a D-Cell battery - with a big grin on his face - popped a stick of kinestick off. There was enough concussion that it felt like you had been punched in the chest...

Until that happened, I couldn't figure out why they needed to drive us down the hill. They had planned and schemed to make that happen. Yep, we would definitely mess with each other. Lots of fun to stick a lineman up in the air in his bucket too, then walk away.

I started to say you just descibed a blasting mat and the guy was holding the leads from the shot i used to have to hold the leads on a meter and not take my eyes off the meter when they would be putting blasting mats over the shot and more fill on top of them if they broke a wire in the shot while covering it that spot is where we would have to start digging to rewire the shot ! I really liked the big rock shots the track drillers would drill a half a day then we would load the 2x24 inch sticks of hercules poweder in the hole with pink amonia nitrate then the fines of the drilling were last in the whole to keep the shot from blowing out and coming back up the hole like a shotgun barrel then they would tie all the wires into a stageing board with the different mil a second capps in order then boooom and the orange smoke in the sky for a few minutes i loved that smell

Didn't think about that - but those folks with a show to put on - have to have some pretty cool tricks!

Does anyone know where you can find the very top helper leaf in this pic im looking for 2 of em if there not very expensive !View attachment 846980

Try a leaf spring shop (seriously). A flat leaf isn't expensive at all. See if you can find someone locally that makes springs and spring packs. I'm pretty certain CC Spring is still in operation here, but it's Texas. Texas lives on big equipment and shops are everywhere.

Every 1088 I’ve scrapped out the rear springs were one of the first thing gone.

Wanted. Those never make it to the scrapper. Now I am parting out a 1083 and those springs would just be scrap. I wonder if they could be used to supplement what you have ?
