Correct Belts for M1008 and M1009

In the past I bought a rebuilt alt and it came with a larger pully/fan, on that particular vehicle it didn't make a differance but could some one in the past have done that? It's not that big of a deal just take the belt back and ask for one 1" larger, 1" is a lot on belts!

This post is awesome. Thanks for the *correct* belts. My M1009 came with a 7575 on the left alt and a single 15490 on the right alternator + steering pump. Always have squeel issues... now I know someone bodged it in the past.

Seems to be a lot of info out there about these dang belts. I was missing the drivers side belt to the alternator. It routes to the outside groove on the power steering pump. According to the pictures posted above, mine is routed the same way. Also, I put a belt on that is very tight with no way for me to make an adjustment unless it loosens up. Well, now the power steering pump squeals like crazy when idling. It sometimes goes away but comes back. The belt in the inside grove on the PSP goes around the Water pump. The water pump pulley has a middle groove with nothing on it. I’m wondering if the driver’s side alt belt is supposed to route to the power steering pump and the middle groove of the water pump....looks like it’s back to searching the TMs!

After some further research, it would appear that I should have gotten a belt that would route from the alternator to the water pump, to the crank, then to the water pump, and back to the alternator. I have found a lot of different part numbers for these belts. Currently, the passenger side alternator belt is a Gates 7480 and it fits just fine. That's not the correct belt according to several threads on here. The power steering pump to crank belt is a 7455 and it fits just fine, also not the the correct belt. All that being said, I'm not sure which ones to get. I'm going to just order the one I found on the FAQs thread. I think it was a Gates 7575.

I looked around forever, trying to find the right belts for my setup. Rig was built by someone else and I bought it pretty much complete. It's a 1951 Willys Wagon body on a 1984 M1009 chassis, with the original 6.2 Detroit Diesel as the power plant. These belts worked perfect! I appreciate you posting this!!

Below is a list of the CORRECT Belts for a M1008 and M1009, I recovered a M1009 at Fort Bragg and all of the belts were on it and appeared to be a PERFECT fit with the belts numbers still on the belts and to be a perfect fit in all pulleys.
I cross referenced the numbers to Gates Belts and got a set from the local NAPA parts store and installed them on my M1008 and they are a PERFECT FIT with no more belt squealing and the belts fit perfectly in the pulleys. The power steering belt is a little trickey to get installed due to the pulley being smaller that all other pulleys and having to go over the big pulley to get to the small power steering pulley. I just took the power steering pump completely off and installed this belt with the pump loose, then just bolted the pump back in place and tightened the belt with a crow bar from underneath then tightened the other three attaching points of the power steering pump.
I was tired and everyone posting different belts number and not of them seem to be correct... Now I'm Happy and maybe the belt problem with be resolved!

Use the belt numbers listed. Don't use anything but Gates belts. Expect about 20-30k miles from a set of belts if you use Gates. Other top tier brands like Goodyear will throw. Regardless of which belt comes off, it will take others with it. These trucks are hard to drive without power steering/brakes.

Can confirm. Threw the belts on a Hydroboost C10 with a load of blocks in the bed and it took a 7 point turn to get into my driveway.
