Correct fuel pump

I have searched and searched but to no avail.

I purchased a new mechanical fuel pump for my M1028, however I must have got the wrong one. My GM book indicates the correct replacement pump should be AC Delco 43-254, however there is a a difference in the inlet tube which will not let this pump fit. On my original pump, the inlet tube comes out of the bottom of the pump and turns towards the front of the engine. However the new 43-254 pump's inlet tube turns towards the rear, which will not work beccause the tube actually hits the frame. There is absolutely no way to attach the rubber fuel line and get it low enough to bolt the pump on. I wouldn't want to do this anyway, because sooner or later the frame would wear a hole in the hose.

Has anybody else encountered this issue? Did I get the wrong pump?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well I got it sorted out.

I purchased the pump from Summit Racing. I called their Customer Service line late today and spoke with Sara and explained my issue. She was extremely nice and asked me to send her the photos via email, which I did while we were on the phone. I also sent her the link provided by Mr. Doghead. She then compared the photos to the image on the link and agreed that something was indeed wrong. She asked for my cell number and said she would investigate and get back with me. I honestly didn't expect to hear back from her until next week, or ever at all again.

This evening Sara called me at 8:05 pm and said that their warehouse man had printed the photos (the same photos I posted here) and took them to their inventory for comparison. She said they had two 43-254 pumps in stock, and one of them was like the new pump and the other was like my old pump! So evidently AC Delco made a mistake in packaging.

Sara said she had issued a UPS pickup ticket for the incorrect pump and the correct pump will be expedited to me on Monday. Talk about Customer Service!

I will indeed be purchasing future parts from Summit Racing.

Thanks to everybody who chimed in.

You aren't the first to get incorrect parts. I purchased brake wheel cylinders from the local auto parts store, still sealed in the wrapper with the correct part number on the bag BUT the parts would not fit at all, wrong piston diameter and much larger.

Just my luck, that store was all out of that part. So I went to their competitor and they sent me to their mega store which had two. Only one was made here, the other in China. And the Asian one was a little too large in the outer casting aua. So I took it to the grinder and made it fit :grd:. Still working today.
