First, the idiot light, the oil pressure warning light, is switched at a pressure of some 2 to 3 PSI. If you are that low in that location, the engine is just dying.
If you use a hydraulic gauge it should range up to 100 PSI. The needed hose you can NOT make yourself! You need a visit at your local hydraulic shop to get a hose made. Hose quality must be good for, as we call it here, T1, means 1 lay of wire mesh in the hose, temperature range of 60°C is sufficient for the hose, for the oil is locked into the hose and barely gets very hot.
This system works for me since more than 500 engine hours.
Presure reading at cold engine is some 60 PSI, running hot some 40PSI, hot idle between 15 and 20 PSI.
Do not use electric gauges of the standard M-Series turcks. Use only Hummer gauges. The green range reaches lower than on standard gauges.
