CUCV cargo cover tailgate connection

If you have a cargo cover installed on your M1008
could you please take a look at the metal stip with the turnbuttons on it that attaches to the top outboard side of the tailgate.

The metal strip is aprox 1 1/2 " wide and as long as the tailgate. However it is bent slightly in the middle along the major axis.

My question is: Does the bend bend toward the front of the truck or toward the rear?

Note: vertical bar is supposed to be under the slashes to represent the other half of the metal strip.
I am about to mount the turnbuttons on and want to make sure they point in the right direction.
