Contact CUCVFAN. He actually owns an M1009 with the original MERDC scheme. The cool thing about his truck is that he believes it might be the first production M1009 CUCV off the assembly line based upon the VIN.

Date of manufacture on this truck was 9/83.
That's about as early as most of the production trucks are. Any idea what the last 6 digits of the VIN were?

I have some photos of early/prototype trucks on the assembly line painted 4-color. I have them saved somewhere, but I cannot find them. They were black and white, but you could see the 4-color pattern. The 4-color didn't last long before they started painting them with the original-style 3-color scheme.

I have a few other pics of trucks on another computer that are 4-color. I'll see if I can dig them up, too.

My M1009 has a mfr date of 1/83, and it is still wearing its original 4-color paint (for the most part)... I believe its scheme is light green/forest green/sand/black. I don't know if GM ever painted any with the brownish color, but I guess it is possible. That paint looks pretty darn clean for 30-year old GM... I would guess a unit re-painted it at some point using the original pattern.
