CUCV M1009, What is this for?

I own a 1985 CUCVM1009. I have learned a lot from reading the very informative post you guys have and I know I might sound like a dummy so Sorry in advance for this dumb question but what is this for? I’m not a mechanic but I’m trying to learn and do it all myself. I think it’s a spot to hook up a temp gauge? Thanks for the help fellas.

That is the coolant temperature sensor. That determines current coolant temperature and tells the system if the glow plugs must engage or not. If you have the push button system trash it and forget about it. Not the way I would do it but many vehicles are irreversibly hacked up and the cost to do the proper repairs is not considered a positive unless you do it your self. Good Luck. That is also the old stock outdated sensor. They updated that sensor and included a pigtail to do the update with the new sensor.

Yes, scotch locks are trash. Weakens the wire, promotes fatigue and corrosion.
Heat shrink crimp connectors are my favorite. Solder and heat shrink for low profile connections in a loom.

I would throw the Scotch blocks in the trash. Thats just me. We outlawed them 25 years ago at our assembly plant. They are for temporary use only IMHO. Good Luck.
one question RI km this is similar to a glow plug sensor, on the passenger engine on top of the last glow plug.? for changing mine, while I wait for the chpf906 pump to arrive, and so I change the sensor and the pump

(I think I read here that it was an advance sensor or something similar, it is that I had to translate because I did not know very well)

This is NOT the same as the passengers side rear of the head.
This is the correct switch for the passengers side rear of the head. This controls the fast idle/advance solenoid at cold start.

I hope that helps you. Good Luck. This is an expensive switch. Make sure you need it and it is not just a loose or melted pigtail. I seen a few that had bad loose connections at this point. They will blow the 20 amp engine control fuse if this switch is shorted.

Thanks, I'm waiting for the chfp906 pump to arrive, I will mount it and try to start it, if it does not start, I'll tell you, I thought this could influence, you know that the m1009 has me desperate

Make sure to remove the fuel pump push rod cover plate (10mm hex / M6 bolts x 2) and change that gasket as well.

After you have that cover plate removed the push rod will slide out. Put some grease on that rod and shove it back up into the engine. Now replace the cover plate and allow the cover plate bolts to stay loose. After alignment and installation of all the fasteners loosely go and tighten everything. I have a quick tip. Remove the right side alternator and bracket to get better access to the fuel pump. You can do it from the bottom but take my advise it makes it easier to do top side. Thank you. Good Luck.

At ne time I had a dozen new ones and gave them out not knowing they were expensive. I have a few used ones and will hang onto them for now. But they did have an inexpensive one I listed in the past. It was a Standard brand name I believe. I will look.

So, basically it is similar, for working principle as usual temperature sender? Maybe more correct temperatures/ohms, nothing more?
It is just a basic sender. No justification for an over inflated price. Check the availability, out of stock everywhere you go, if you want it and I have it pay up or go without.

Even that Standard part is expensive. But expense is just one time and done. keep screwing with it and it will cost you more. Good Luck. My parts supplier quoted me $100. for the part. Not in Stock. I seen them available at several palaces. None were a $30. part. Good Luck.
