wallew and makerstelemark: I have been looking over the recommendations here. I am not done yet; but I found this regarding the Cooper M+S:
I realize that we all have our opinions; but "scientific" tests are hard to ignore... still looking. ThanksThe only winter tire that flunks at snow traction in a major U.S. test -- the Hankook Icebear W300 (*Est. $80) -- also gets a bad grade at APA, where it is judged "not optimized for ice or snow." One studdable tire available in the U.S. in SUV/light truck sizes, the Cooper Discoverer M+S (*Est. $130), is downgraded by the APA "because of the numerous safety recalls related to Cooper tires." In a U.S. test, the Cooper Discoverer M+S (minus its studs) places dead last after braking poorly on every road surface -- icy, wet and dry.
