just an FYI, thats a 12 volt rated swicth, it will work for awhile, but the first time its not tight, it will weld itself together, im only saying be prepared, incase u are away and need to change it out, maybe carry an extra bat connector .Randy

I don't think the voltage rating is as important as the current rating of that switch. I've seen these also at Frank's and HF, curious what max current is.

I bought a battery shut off switch from harbur freight. It was like $8.00
I installe dit between the 2 batteries so there is no path for the electricity.
It has a red key that can be removed and taken with you. Granted if someone wnated to they could jump the contacts with a wrench or something. But It didn't require any mods to the truck and it is hidden behind the battery door.

I had to do this after a friend of mine wanted to show of how easy my truck started. .. in gear. . and ran over my mototcycle before he got it shut down.

What about a pedal lock? Maybe drill a small hole through the clutch pedal at the floor that you could put a padlock through? Use on of those storage unit types without the exposed clasp. You won't make it far without shifting. And if your worried about strenght you could weld a washer on. Someone recently tried to steal my brothers jeep (for the third time-SoCal). They were able to beat the ignition lock and the "Club", but in the morning he found his jeep 15 feet from where he parked it. They got it started but didn't go anywhere. Plus it would look original (you wouldn't see it when the padlock was off), and is easier/cleaner and harder to defeat then 8' of chain around the wheel!

Also fixed the sagging door hinge. Big improvement. New wipers on both sides helped too.

Had farm truck taken for a joy ride. Just got it real dirty and really stuck but it was a PITA. The best thing is to disconect the ground. Try to do it so when some kid looks they do not see it. But I doubt they look. that also prevents the lights being turned on and draining the batteries. Locking the brake and steering wheel are good because then they do not think to look at the batteries. The batteries are not hard to get to so it should not be hard. When some kid gets in and even lights do not work they will get bored and look somewhere else.

No, can't remember the vendor offhand but if you order "RV Locking L Handles" should be able to get them keyed alike for less than $20 delivered. You will have to cut some (maybe 1/4 inch?) off the shaft and wallow out the screw holes a bit but they fit fine.

I think I am going to go simple, a chain and lock between the grab handle on the back of the cab and the door handle, on both sides. I know that a prepared thief with a pair of bolt cutters will defeat that but I am looking to stop the opportunist thief/vandal/curious button pusher that happens on the truck unexpectedly, and curious airshow spectators looking for a self-guided tour.

I think I would rather have it under the clutch then the brake pedal. If for some reason they could get it moving, I would want them to stop instead of running something or someone over.


Your idea looks similar to my fuel shut off lock, well half of my lock anyway. here is my lock. Still have a couple available if any one wants one.

I bought a universal ignition switch and wired in in series with the push button. So you have to both turn the main power switch on and turn the key to the on position to get power. Then to start it you have to hold down the push button and turn the key at the same time. It works pretty good.
