Dual 1600x20's on a Bridge Truck? Possible?

We just heard we can obtain a yearly $150 overwidth permit for our M812. We were told before you had to apply for a permit each time you moved the truck which is why we were going to slim the truck down.

My questions are-
Can you put dual 1600x20's on a M812, the truck already has spacers.

Can you use the existing wheels that hold the 1400x20's to install 1600x20's?

I think this would look really neat on this truck and I have a good source for 1600x20 tires.

Any thoughts?

1400's

Finding a good deal on the 1400's seems hard especially in radial plus the tread selection in radials for the 1400's seem pretty lame. I like the look of the beefy Michilin 1600's lug pattern. We are going to single out one of our M818 tractors with the 1600's so I'd like a different look with this truck. Plus I'd like the increased road speed of the 1600's.

Do the 1600's fit on the 1400x20 wheels?

Yes, I think it can be done. I have posted a pic before of an older M139 style bridge truck with dual 1600R20 Michelin XLs. I'll see if I can find it.

I would be very cautious in using that setup on the highway.I don't know what the clearance between the two rear duals would be.It could cause them to rub together and blow out a sidewall.The Ford truck from usa6x6 should NEVER be driven on the road.... Sometimes good looks and kool can over rule COMMON SENSE and SAFETY

Thanks for the pics. How much wider are the 1600's from the 1400's? I guess I could install a small spacer between the wheels if needed. I want the dual spacing to look correct not like the USA 6x6 superduty.

I figure with 8 1600's on the back at approx 14,500lb capacity each you have around 116,000lbs capacity on the rear... I don't think the tires are going to be the weakest link.

Do the 1600's fit on the 1400 rim on my truck?

2" wider. Yes they will fit. You shouldn't have any problem with the rims or spacing between them. The bridge truck also greater spacing between the axles so you have move room there too. Go for it!

With the junk I've heard about him, I wouldn't let USA6x6 pimp my wheelbarrow. It may have safety issues and be screwed up beyond repair by the time he's done.

Alright I'll be getting some 1600's shortly and most likely some Hemmet front wheels for the front. Pics to follow in the next few months. The 250 Cummins will be hummin trying to pull all of these tires up to speed.

Why would you go with HEMTT wheels in the front? They are going to stick way out.

Will the stock bridge truck wheels handle 1600's on the front also without rubbing? I just have always seen guys on here with M809's running Hemmet wheels all around. If I can use the stock front wheels with the provided spacer with 1600's that would save me about $400 in rims so I'd be for that!

If you are running duals in the back, I would keep it stock all the way around. I can't imagine you would have any problems with a 16R20 vs a 14R20 on the stock bridge truck wheels.

Funny. I have considered doing the same exact thing to my M139, including the early HEMMTT split rims (to preserve what little turning radius I have) up front. I would absolutely love to see a couple pics if you go through with this.

I have to claim ignorance here. The bridge truck rims are wider than "normal" 5ton truck rims? Say like on a wrecker? So if I were to come across some bridge truck rims they would work for bigger than 1100x20 tires? All I would need is the larger tire huh.
