the TM photograph for the cab raise or lower clearly depicts : when raising all knobs are in the raise position and visa versa when lowering?...does it make a difference?

might be something left out of text......but IMHO more likely it might be just a cut & paste of the top knob (cab tilt at raise) being pasted to all the knob positions below it by the illustrator.

being in a profession where using illustrations is common.... it was oft stated..... "TEXT is correct; not illustrations"

What do the instructions inside the valve door say? Those from the manufacturer should trump any manual….

From a hydraulics standpoint, the valve position of valves on circuits that are not selected should be irrelevant if the function selector valve is working properly and isolating the flow to one circuit at a time…

Don’t quote me but I think somewhere in the tm’s under each function of the manifold it states something about leaving the knobs in the last function/position you used it in.

It doesn’t matter. Only things that matters is to select which device, and which direction.

Im pretty sure the valve knob stays in the center pos/hold if not useing that system and only what you want to move in the direction you want it to go .

Here's a picture of mine, for what it's worth. As others said, they don't need to all be switched to the lower position. These manuals were illustrated in the '90s, before CAD and 3D graphics could have helped make it an easier task. They probably drew the pictures once each, all down, and all up, so that they could cleverly reuse them in all the places in the manual that referenced the position of one of the valves.

Only the function knob matters, and what you want that function to do. Otherwise they are not selected so position does not matter.
