Fresh paint for the M1008

I painted the M1008 today. Well, most of the M1008. I thought I could stretch a gallon, and I almost did, but I will need another quart for the middle of the roof and the headlight buckets, grille, and mirrors. I used a BASF industrial paint. It's an alkyd enamel that you mix 4:1 with a synthetic enamel hardener. They had all the mil-spec looking colors but I chose a shade darker than the original green. I'll get the details on the paint number just in case anyone wants to know. The paint and the reducer put me at about $100 from my local paint shop.

The military thought it was a good idea to weld nuts over the threadserts in the bed rather than drill out the spinning ones and put new ones in. So I ground all the nuts off, bondo'ed the shrunken metal mess left after the sub-par weld job and put new threadserts in. I was really concerned about sanding the old CARC so prep was minimal. I'm happy with the results. It came out rather well for a driveway paint job. I don't even see any bugs in the paint! :-D Here's a few pics, I'll shoot more once its all together. The paint will flatten out a little more as it cures, I shot an extra tailgate as a test yesterday.

Thanks Crash! It was a Central Pneumatic Professional Series HVLP from Harbor Freight. Bought it on sale for 16 dollars a while back. Did exceptionally well. The gun takes abuse too. I don't brush it down after use, I just shoot some Xylol through it when I'm done and throw it back in the tool box.

Looks good. I noticed that you have a dent in the bottom of the bed on the passenger's side just above the tailpipe. Mine has one just like it caused when the tread seperated from the tire. My dad works for CSX and he later told me that they removed all Cooper tires from their vehicles a while back due to the same problem.
