Fuel pump not working M-135

With the ignition switch on there is power to the connector to the fuel pump. There are two terminals, one grd and the other hot. Removed the pump assy from the gas tank. Starting to trouble shooting. Removed the capacitor housing from the top of the hangar. A capacitor in inserted into the housing. A lead from the capacitor is screwed to the end of the cable assy, which I unscrewed it. Now I have the capacitor, I checked the continuity across the capacitor and it was zero..I'm assuming the capacitor is bad. Am I correct ?
If I bypass the connector would I mess up the pump, what purpose does the capacitor serve, it is 1.5mfd.
Any suggestions?

I am an electrican so I think I can help you on this one. The capacitor serves as a filter in a DC circuit to filter out interference with the frequency that would affect the fuel pump. It also prevents voltage spikes that damage the pump. Look at your pump closely. Mine sat in old gas so long it formed a sticky varnish and completely plugged the pump up. That would be my guess as to your problem. You can take the screen off at the bottom of the pump and you should see a shaft which is the impeller that pumps. The pump sucks in fuel through the screen and at the bottom there is a centrifuge that spins and creates the flow of fuel. I am guessing that is stuck solid. I have one of mine apart too, but I just went out and bought a NOS pump for around $50 and it works perfect. Be careful when you take out all those electrical components so you assemble them correctly and don't have any shorts, ESPECIALLY IN THE FUEL TANK!!! Also you must find out whether you capacitor is polarized or non-polarized. If it is polarized which many are, there will be a negative(-) or positive (+) symbol on the capacitor. If you hook a polarized capacitor up backwards IT CAN EXPLODE(I know, i've seen it happen). My money is that it is polarized as most DC circuits have. On you ohm mode did your meter read 0 or 'OL', there is a differance. If it read 0 then you dielectric inside is shorted out and it's junk, but if it reads OL(out of limit, or infinity) then it has a very high resistance and is still good. 1.5 micro farad is how capacitors are rated. If it is bad you can more than likely take it to radio shack or an electronics store and get another one. Hope my short novel here can clean some of it up for you. Where did you get the pump for $50.? The capacitor is not polorized, the voltage goes thru the cap, the cap is connected to ther cable connector on one end and is pigtailed on the other which is screwed to the cable which goes to the pump.

I got my fuel pump from front line military vehicles. I think it's in PA. I can't remember if they had a lot left or not, but I got it about 4 months ago. Give em a ring, they have a website also. Hey tony, would it be asking too much to maybe see a pic or two of you wheels and parts you have painted? What bugs me on the paint on my deuces is that it's darker than WWII SG and lighter and not brown like 34087? Does the WWII SG darken up? cause it just looks too light to me? Thanks.

Could not find front line military vehicles on the web, could you give me their address or there phone number. I removed the old pump and disassembled it. The armature was really worn, only one brush left. Also there is another screen with in the pump, which is much finer than the one on the ouside. Well there is a cavity below the screen and it was abot 90% filled with fine metalic particles, its a wonder it worked at all. Now I know that I need a pump.
I took photos of what I painted, will print them and get it to you. Can't tell you about the paint color problem you have , but I would guess that time and sun would hav ean effect on the color.By the way, I put a pressure adj gage on my gun, can control the spray pressur better, works real great.

Hi deuceman51,
that info where to get the fuel pump worked ok, thanks.I'mm having a problem inserting a photo here for you to see the paint of what I've done so far
I'm not to cool on this computer thing, but here is what I did.

hit "insert a file" then it goes into my file, I identify the foto and it starts to load, then I get a notice that states " please click here to close and try again" well I try again and get the same notice, Also the foto is in jpg and the note stateas size is 568. kb
Now if you tell me how to insert the foto I will. Also I'm keeping fotos and a log of the restoration of both of the trucks that I'm working on, would like to put it on this system so I could get some advice and guidance and also some guys might be able to use what I'm doing...Let me know how I can do it, either you deuceman51 or the moderator or whoever.

Not sure what's the problem. I inserted this pic of my m211 and it worked fine the first time. Maybe the file is too large? I'm not sure. If anything else you could always send it to my hotmail address.

Great photo, I see that you have 70.52KB, my photo is in jpeg, but is 568kb, I know that there is a way to reduce the kb ,different format , will have to figure it out. What format is your photo in? I've never had a problem emailing photos befor , that why I was thinking that I'm doing something wrong

I'm inpressed , it worked will sent you photo of what I'm working on 17 is the USMC one and 13 is the USA one, the army one is in pretty bad shape, Paint wise, was ditting inthe Arizona desert for a few years
