Ahab, thank you. Most of the photos are selected from thousands of marginal pics. I just kept clicking with the decade old Olympus TG-619 camera, designed in Tokyo and made in China. There is a spin off from the education process here at SteelS with folks appreciating, front, side, rear, quarter, top and bottom shots of absolutely anything. A little landscape design suggests Color, texture, harmony, rhythm and balance are things we look for. Mostly it's just a lot of photo taking, but there is training out there..... https://getpocket.com/explore/item/6-common-photography-mistakes-to-avoid?utm_source=pocket-newtab

However, if you fall on the ice and take pictures while you're down there, the Fury 1 photo can be magical.

Getting an MV in frame while there is something else...or a lot of something else.... going on in the background is hot. Getting the flag right requires wind which is hard to be good at.....asking for wind.

View attachment 853797

Goose was my second MV next to Push the M1010 but once I got them, they almost demanded to have pictures taken. The 50's deuce was just beginning to retire from a regular shift when the 80's introduced the M1010. That's historical. The Goose photo days from 2011 and 2012.

View attachment 853802

Once Goose's cab and frame were painted and the fella with his birth day/month on the data-plate approved, getting her out in public seemed easy. The 16/3/27 Pops with the 16/3/56 Goose in 2011.

View attachment 853806

Being a part of the Edmonton Aviation Museum since the 90's provided unbelievable opportunity for photos. I was plane nuts long before I was MV nuts but the photo ops are outrageous. Gooses early days in 2012, even through the winter, running to parades and static displays whenever she could.

Truck, Aircraft, wind in the flag......just the right place at the right time with good batteries and 32GB.

View attachment 853804

Goose got to hang out with some Canadian family for more photos after 2012. It's hard to get good pics with a big family.

Left to right, The 1954 CDN M207/ Shop Van..... mistaken as an M220, often called an M220, did some time up north and has rare black-out kit rails and double door system on the back....... the 1953 CDN M211 from the Penhold bunker, now back near the Penhold bunker with a Duramax and being used on a regular basis.....and Goose the Deuce.

It is amazing how our countries shared technology.
That Fury 1 looks amazingly like the F86 SabreJet.

These are amazing pictures m1010plowboy and I really enjoyed them!
The info about taking a good picture is nice to read when it is too cold to be outside

THANK YOU again for the pictures!

With the incredibly good humoured Grandmaster of the G749 farm passing away at the end of March in 2018, he set us up to make calls to family during....."Happy Easter" and "April fools day" ......... to let folks know he passed away. Loosing a family member before Easter or April 1st is an added burden even if everyone is light hearted and good humoured. Most folks answer the phone with ........"Happy Easter"......., then you are in that position to tell them the bad news. With Easter falling just before April 1, you can imagine on April fools day, calling people and telling them one of your hilarious parents has passed away. His sense of humour lives on past his valuable life.

Mom had the same good humour and was getting tired of celebrating Easter without Pops around. Easter wasn't just a religious holiday anymore when departed loved ones are also celebrated at the same time. She carried the burden of loosing her partner much more this time of year. She recently talked about going to find him so we all knew her 93rd birthday she just celebrated on March 12, could be her last. She passed in her sleep at the hospital on March 24, 2022 after admitting herself in a few days before. The timing was a little better than Pops but Easter and April fools day will now have a different meaning, forever.

Have a toast to the team that raised and tolerated a Plowboy.

They'd want us to get back at it and keep working so lets figure out how to get this silver thing off the front of a G749 302. I got this far before the snow hit.

P4182280.JPG

Someone out there in G749 land wanted a cam shaft.....how hard could it be? Just pull the front cover. I got lucky and my puller was the perfect puller for pulling the pulley but the weather hit so I pulled out of the G749 farm until Spring, when I pull back in. I thought we could chat it up before I look in a manual to remove the 'gear'. That sure looks aluminum and breakable.

P4182264.JPG

Did you know to ....."""simply pull the front cover""" after pulling the pulley you need to get at these two bolts inside. Oil pans must be dropped to remove the front cover. ....go figure.

P4182279.JPGP4182267.JPG

After attempting the cam access adventure on engine 1 and finding these rusty lifters that don't move, we hit up engine 2.

P4182265.JPG

How did an oil pump get all smashed up in the bottom of a 302? After the pan is off you pull this thingy........part BE pump assy', 7000506

P4182273.JPG P4182270.JPG

Anyhow.........the cams in these two engines look like scrap but I'm not the mechanic.......can that cam be saved?

P4182277.JPG

SPRING START UP WARNING

We're in the middle of a snowstorm so summer seems far away but I'm reminded to remind everyone to "SHAKE, LISTEN......then OPEN"

Can you spot it? There is something different about this G749 wasp powered engine bay. This was last years work so the reminder, is friendly.

P3222240.JPG

I might fire up a new post with this latest information but for now, what I will say is........Edmonton is getting another museum and the beef behind this project is mighty meaty. This next Edmonton project with likely have at least 40,000 sq. ft. of indoor MV storage with the ability to store, start, roll, test, repair and display Canadian Military MV's and their keepers military history. Edmonton will soon become a historical military vehicle destination.

This info is so fresh that if you put you face up to the screen....you can smell the ink. Here is the beginning.

Wow @m1010plowboy , that's difficult. Happy to hear that family and friends were able to be able bring forward some fun out of the passing of your mother. That is a hard place to be. My mom left us suddenly and three years later, dad checked out in a few weeks while in the hospital. So many things that never needed to be answered never got asked. I wish the very best to you and your family.

--

Looking forward to a report on the new museum.

Not sure about the cam shaft in that condition - but if you have nothing - it could be reconditioned and cleaned to bring an old 302 back to life. I took a big gulp of air when I saw the hornets nest. That would have been a real heart pounding adventure had it been full of the little black buggers!

Our condolences for your losses! As a "believer" I took great comfort in knowing when my parents passed, their pain and suffering were over, physically and emotionally. Absent from the body, present with the Lord!

Thank you for sharing with us here...................makes a person stop and take notice and reevaluate their priorities!!

GOOD luck with the motor!!

We so much appreciate the kind words fellas. She rides with us forever.

Using the trucks as a distraction is helpful and when someone needs parts, it makes it even better. I had a chance to peak at another 'take-out' engine that sat outside at a local wrecker for 40 years. I don't think we can save the cam but the flywheel might end up down south. Will it run? lol.

P4232320.JPGP4232322.JPG

Have a pick fellas. Left or right. I figure if we take votes and something is wrong with it we have only ourselves to blame. When I saw the grooves just along the edge of the teeth in the first one I thought it was trash. I also realized I'm not a mechanic and never really looked at a flywheel before.

What's with that 'lead in' grove at an angle up towards the teeth? Is that some kind of fancy tooth mesh starter guide? Imagine the poor guy on the grinder that had to cut each one of those in.

P4232317.JPG

I'll likely send the one on the right after counting worn / scratched teeth. The one on the right still had some paint between the teeth.

P4232315.JPGP4232289.JPGP4232293.JPG

It's interesting that the O ring size is a different between the two. It's also interesting there is an O ring on the on the back of the flywheel. That must be the double layer of protection for those deep fording adventures.

P4232310.JPGP4232291.JPG

Here's a peak at the handy engine stand the crate engines came in. Handy and simple. I'll have a bunch of spares soon.

I pretty sure that o-ring is a seal on the crankshaft flange because the other side is inside the torus full of fluid
That's likely the o ring that went bad on Goose. The bell housing kept filling with fluid so we'd drain it before a tour and she was fairly good about not leaving stains behind at a show. The joke started about "How much fluid does a bell housing hold on the M135 ".

P4232294.JPGP4232292.JPG

It's not anywhere near possible that those "lead-in grooves" are handcut, is there?

I don't know manufacturing, but those flywheels have to be mass-produced, for sure, right?!
I looked for a flywheel manufacturing video for us but couldn't find one about cutting in the grooves. There is a video about everything else so we still learned a few tricks to check one over before sending it out.

Here is the big winner getting boxed up and on the way to Montana. Only $45.00 with UPS to get it down there so lets hope it arrives.

I'm sorry for your loss "m1010plowboy". I lost both my parents within a year of each other. That was over twenty years ago now, but I still miss them.

That "O" ring on the flywheel is to seal the torus ring just like "M37Keppy" said. There is of course that large "O" ring that seals against the Torus housing too . I worked on those old "Dual Range HydroMatics" back in the 1980's . I still have several around here. I plan to rebuild one with a 350 V8 in front of it. Then find a good body M135 and put it in it. I even have all the parts stashed away around here. Got the good 1948 Brass clutch plates, and a really rare gear to gear front pump ! Usually they came with the 10 vane style pumps which could break vanes under hard pressure.

Thanks much Rusty. Some of us are fortunate enough to have good parents we can miss for twenty years. We were lucky.

Good to see you....or read your typing. The 350 hooked to the GM Hydromatic would be awesome. Pulling hills with anything more than the 302 is a bonus. Re-engineering the Hydromatic with modern parts could keep the trucks on the road with that authentic feel. Let's get er done.

The G749 farm had a real treat this weekend when Betty the Duramax Deuce came back for a visit. She has 10,000 km on the duramax swap and so far the original rebuilt/ custom TC is still hanging in there.

P5142438.JPG

This was the M211 when it still had the 302.

.......and after the swap back on the military base in Penhold Alberta. where she worked for 30 years.

Betty needed some tires so she made the 100 mile trip back north to swap some rubbers. When you're a mechanic that can drop a duramax into a 50's military truck, changing tires is like wiping your dash. Battery powered Snap on does help.

P5142440.JPGP5142443.JPG

This thing is nuts with winches, cameras all around, complete Duramax / 6 speed swap with all the computer/ gauge package / heater controls and a complete camper on the back. it was extremely cool that a truck we saved would come back to the farm for a visit.

That is a great looking truck ! I need one in that condition for my engine modification project. I found a late model HydraMatic (1955) that came out of a V8 chevy car. Has the early style small block housing. With all the spare transmissions I have here and all the NOS parts I should have a pretty good transmission. Now if I can just finish this stupid shop and get to the real work !
I had installed a HT383 in my old 1984 Chevy military truck years ago. Worked out great. Figured it would work good in the old deuce too. Lots of power and torque.

Just like Elvis!!

Hooray!!!
Yes Ahab I'm back. If your referring to my two year "sabbatical" that's a long story. If your referring to my three weeks off, that had to do with me hitting the Hughes Net satellite dish with my tractor !
They couldn't come out and fix it for three weeks !!!
No internet for three weeks is a real bummer ! No way to order parts and supplies or check my bank statements, or watch my porn. OOPS ! I meant watch YouTube videos ! Yeah that's what I meant !!!!

Rusty, ........ I see MV's on the parade routes in Alberta. Quebec just battled the injustice of MV's being 'banned' and won....... British Columbia sucked some garbage info out of the AAMVA and is trying it on the crowd out west so we're watching that gong show. So far even the B.C. MV folks are still quietly getting their trucks on the road as it should be.

The gent with this deuce filled the M135 with fuel at around $1.70 / litre last weekend. He then drove approx. 60 miles to the town of Stony Plain very early in the morning. The intent and purpose was to carry Canadian Military veterans through a parade route in a small town. If this donation of a Canadian's time and money to support veterans is going to be challenged, we'll intently support an opposition.

282791342_5155986337813551_8272606487227277014_n.jpg

In the background there a lot of people being pro-active and helping design the future of MV ownership. We know there will be some kind of change in the future. If we keep the radar turned up high, we should be able to see the challenges before they shut us down completely. It's only the people that don't understand the minimal impact the MV hobby has on the environment that cause us grief. The maximum impact the MV hobby has can be seen in faces of those we carry.

That square body beast is the Light Support Vehicle Wheeled. LSVW. I guess Wheeled light support vehicle WLSV and Light Support Wheeled Vehicle LSWV were taken........or we blended some French language in there. LSVW just sounds better with or without the French accent. http://www.military-today.com/trucks/lsvw.htm

They're just big enough for a bed and gear so the overnight folks really enjoy them. Everyone wants to see inside.

P7230372.JPG

This Wheeled Light Support Vehicle was at the Whitecourt airshow with us and belongs to one of the MV whisperers up here. Big things are happening with some of the top MV owners getting organized to share their Goods with the rest of us. https://valourpark.org/
