Sorry if you guys addressed this a 1000 times
i am having problem trouble shooting this because i can not unplug the the connector on Gen 1
here is where I am (and thank you in advance for any help )

Gen 1 light stays on
battery 1 front is reading 12.4v when running which is same i get on red wire on gen 1 ( is this enough to say gen 1 no good? )

total voltage when running is 26

As I said can not remove connector on gen 1 would rather cut and splice wires if nec. Than try and find another plug if breaks

once again TIA from an old Jarhead

Welcome to the site.

Please let us know which truck you are working on. It keeps the guessing to a minimum. ;-)

The alternator is not working. You are just reading battery voltage.

The two wire plug has a small tab that needs to be moved to remove the plug. You can get replacement plugs at just about any parts store for ~$5.

We have covered the alternators many times and you may find some helpful reading in the CUCV Wiki and the CUCV Helpful Treads sticky

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/content.php?2-CUCV-Wiki
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?123199-CUCV-Helpful-Threads

And also read the Generator Exciter Troubleshooting thread.

And a word of advice. The F-bomb and all the usual abbreviations are not needed on the website. We attempt to keep this site above all the others.

Does your heater fan work? If not replace the very top fuse and see if your alternator starts working

Pull it off and have a shop test it. Disconnect your batteries first.
