This might be a good time to replace the alternator with a modern one. I believe it is listed in the classifieds and on eBay. Looks good to me. And lower cost than the original probably will be.

Not to mention Halon has not been produced in over a decade. Was one of those evil banned chemicals by the EPA.The stuff they sell now is reclaimed or NOS stuff.

well I found an alt for $100 from teds truck sounds like a good deal for a used one I hope this never happens again I was planning on driving the truck on july 4th but that looks like its not going to happen.

I have a fue halon extinguishers I was going to do an under hood fog system but I guess co2 would be much more earth friendly  than only problem with the alt from teds trucks is its for a m998 so i have to change the pully out shouldent be too hard

M988's did not use the stock 60 amp alternator. You may need the mount and need to change pulleys and belts(depending on which 988 alternator you get(at least 3 different ones were used on 988's).

Well, that sure looks like it will work! I guess I am mistaken:oops:! There are a variety of alternators out there, for sure. Any Humvee guys see a problem with this?.

The later M151s used one that looks like that also, I think.

It might be a good idea to ask for the NSN# of the alt, to be sure of what it is. Maybe they all have the same shaft size(not sure).

well, the good thing about these trucks is you can drive them form now to dooms day without batteries or the alternator.Just charge the batteries good, fire it up and drive it around Independence day.Starts getting dark head home or use the head lights very conservatively.Don't shut the truck down cause the starter eats battery power. That will get ya through till you can get your new/used/rebuilt alternator. There are 2 brand new virgin alternators on Egay right now but one is $340 and the other is $400....OUCH!.Take yours by a alternator and starter specialist and I am sure they can fix it.

not to be a thread jacker but all this talk of burning alternator/generators reminds me of when i was putting a heater in my one deuce. i spilled coolant when i was putting on the lines and it hit the my alt and it started cracklin and smokin. i dont know why. the power switch was off.

I currently have a 60 amp alternator for sale on ebay. Its going pretty cheap. Search under M561 and it will pop up. Not sure if its exactly the same pulley but I have the NSN # listed. Hope this helps.
