GL Lost Surplus Contract

As of now there will be two regional warehouses due to the way the new contract is structured. These warehouses will not be located on any Military bases. The eastern warehouse will be in Chambersburg, PA and the Western warehouse will be in Las Vegas, NV. There will be quite a bit on inventory that will either sell from our current local GP sites, as well as consolidation points across the country. The logistics and final operations plan is still being worked, however, the two warehouse locations have been locked in. I will update everyone with the specifics as soon as they are finalized and approved, as well as when the inventory will start appearing in sales and auctions.
Very disappointed GP is following the GL's silly inefficient model of trucking all this stuff all over the country, only to have us have to truck it all back all over the country. Sell it where is as is at the bases on the DRMO yards. The surplus brings the same money regardless of where it is sold from. You already have personnel at the bases to deal with the rolling stock, which thankfully is not being shipped all over.

The only advantage is if someone is close to auction site to be able to look at the units. With only a couple locations the selection will be greater.

I am Canadian and live 30 minutes from one of Ritchie Bros main auction sites. They are a world class auction company. I have bought from GL and GP in the past and from Ritchie Bros in Canada. I don't know how GL got the contract originally[ although I wonder] but from my experiences they were woefully inadequate and GP being bought out by Ritchie Bros shows me someone has finally seen the light. In an auction environment the competition is from the bidders not from how many auction sites there are. If an item doesn't get any bids it goes for a low price. The reserve price for the stuff I am bidding on is way under the final bid so it isn't a factor in my opinion

woefully inadequate
If you want to see woefully inadequate, go see GP's yard in Hooks, Texas at Red River Depot. Basically a mud pit where all rolling stock is side handled by a front end loader with forks. I have seen demolition derbies where the cars had less damage, all inflicted by GP.

GP still does not have the existing contract under control, and now this.

So they hired GL's fork truck drivers.

Ritchie Bros hasn't had time to make many changes. What's the old saying about turning around a battleship? There are always going to be screw ups but at least as far as generators are concerned GP now gives a proper description and doesn't take photos of one generator and use them on multiple generators. I now have confidence that when I show up they won't try to give me a crapped out generator with 6400 hours on it when I bought a unit with minimal hours and an artic heater.

First, GovPlanet and IronPlanet is a US Based company. The fact that Ritchie Bros acquired us doesn't change that fact. Second, as I said in my original post not everything is going to the warehouses. Where feasible items will sell on site or at a consolidated yard. Basically anything that can be stored outside will sell from the field and anything that has to be stored inside, i.e. textiles, electronic equipment, etc. will be shipped to either the East or West Coast warehouse. It would be great if we could sell everything from the DRMO/DLA site, however, they (DLA) specifically wrote in the contract that we have a certain number of days (Less than a week) to take possession and move it out of their location. Once again, if it makes sense to sell it from a site where we already have personnel working, GP not DLA personnel, than we will do that. Unfortunately the vast majority of items that we are expecting cannot be left outside in the elements, hence the reason for the warehouse locations. Hope that clears some of the confusion up.

It seems like having a 3rd warehouse in the midwest would help keep prices up. Because shipping will kill a lot of people from buying.

That may happen in the future, however, based on how the DLA worded the contract, there is only 1 warehouse per contract. They split the overall Non Rolling Stock into two separate contacts. The reason for this is that the RCP sites will ship directly to one of the designated warehouses depending on which contract the RCP location is assigned. The DLA completely revamped the terms of the contract, and we are constrained by those terms. As we move forward, just like with the Rolling Stock Contract, we will tweak the system as best we can. However starting out we have been given our left and right limits and for the time being we must abide by those limitations.

DO you anticipate doing shipping in house for a fee for items at either location?

GL OKC would list lots then leave them outside. A few times I got soaked triwalls.
That would not be the first time we have heard of that. We also do not plan, as of now, to offer the "mystery meat" triwalls that seemed to be fairly prevalent. Our intent is to break down all groups into like kind items, or at a minimum complementary item into individual lots. Our warehouse will be full blown operations, including shipping and receiving teams, as well as each item being inspected and unique photos for each lot. Obviously new and like new items will most likely receive representative photos until we have developed a good retail function where buyers can purchase items directly versus going the auction route.

As of now we will be featuring items, that qualify, in our weekly featured auctions, along side the Rolling Stock. We will also present a rolling auction, similar to our GovPlanet Direct site, in which items will be listed for 7 days and then automatically relist if they do not take any bids. In the future we are planning on also offering a more "retail" option for the new/like new items such as boots, textiles, etc. We will also be implementing a shipping option directly at checkout via FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc for those items that will qualify, as well as consolidated freight shipping options. Buyers will also have the choice to select their own third party shipper or self pickup if they desire.

As I have said to many of ya'll offline, we have watched and listened to numerous suggestions and complaints about the previous operations and are looking at all possibilities to ensure a better customer experience and overall most common sense approach to liquidate these items. We, GovPlanet, are extremely excited about this prospect and feel free to offer any suggestions you may have. Understand the operations will be tailored to the overall consumer base, not just the individual regions, so there are inevitably going to be some buyers who feel left out, while there will be other buyers that will now be afforded opportunities that were not there before. There will also be bumps and obstacles that we will run into in the beginning, however, we are confident that the overall operation will be to everyone's benefit.

I think Govplanet will do a much better job at the warehouse locations and base sites(which they already do a great job!). I have dealt with many of the Govplanet team site inspectors and they have done an excellent job.

I hope that arranging shipping out of the warehouses will be easy.

I have called many freight companies around the Govliquidation warehouse and GL has basically scared them away with difficult pick up arrangements to where they wont do pickups there.

Trucking wildly across the US is not just at the whim of the Auction Co. DLA announced last fall they were going to have ANOTHER round of DRMO closings.

My "local" yard at Ft McCoy being one. For the last few years they have been bringing stuff to McCoy from all over the upper Midwest. Apparently new plan is that most to be hauled to Columbus Oh. Which (other than Offutt & Ft Riley) is the worst/laziest PITA DLA in the system. But apparently some items will not leave the generating (turnin) unit/installation so can screen/obtain there. TBD.

Good for truckers.

Overall there seems to be a substantial decrease in the amount of surplus coming into in the system. The Obumer shutdown of DOD is over. No EPA driven throwing away of perfectly good genset?

I will help you set up warehousing and shipping at the Grissom ARB in North Indiana. Lots of room, ready access to US 31 and called "crossroads of America". Huge runway (neary unused) for people to fly in and out.
