So it looks like i just bought this: http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/view?auctionId=5886012
Anyone familiar with these things, and has a Commercial DL, want to go with me to pick it up($)? Its in Barstow, I'm in Corona. 1st military vehicle and the largest thing I have driven to date was a firetruck for about 8 feet... I guess a night of drinking could have turned out worse...

Nice truck but I think it will need to be towed off the base. I do know if you could get a moving permit for, insurance is another issue. I have pulled many trucks off of the base and they ride on the landow it is far safer and much more legal. I have to pick up a tractor soon

You definitely did good at 3K. I've bought and recovered two trucks from Barstow, a M923 and M936A1. I checked both out after signing the paperwork for a couple of hours on site and then drove them the 250 miles home. Use the back gate for access to Barstow GL, thats what they prefer as the GL lot is only 1/4 mile inside the back gate. Good luck with your recovery.

The PS mirror will need ot be re-afixed if you are to drive it,
prob missing parts. If you could determine what is there and maybe
buy the rest, needed or not, you will have the bases covered for
little money. I lust looked and I can not tell if it is just missing a couple
1/4" bolts and nuts or if the mount is broken.

For 3K you did good IMO providing there are no unforseen issues.
I would call and ask if you can drive off the base. I think the smog
laws say NO. Please tell me what you find.

My M925A1 w/ towbar is 1200 miles away or I would help. There is
a commercial tow company in Riverside that can flatbed that truck
and deliver it to you, prob would not be but 400-500 (guessing)
www.sierratow.com

I have a CDL, you would have to fetch me up in Monrovia, and have
mirror parts in hand and a few tools, then fetch me back home. Fuel
alone to do that will add lots to the tow bill.

I will help if I can.

I watched the video, it sounds good, I can see a rear brake chamber
is new so the brakes are probably OK. ( PS, if it does not pass a COLA
brake test I will decline to DRIVE it. If we can not quickly find
the leak you will be forced to tow it...)

Lemme know! Call them and ask about driving it off the lot. Remember
you will have to have a trip permit, and you will have to have an insurance
certificate as well w/ insurance that covers me in that seat.

I will hook you up w/ the trucking school I just used if you please. I asked for an acceleerated
corse and after a little skills testing w/ me in a truck they said OK so it
can be done. I pulled it off in 9 days and I think it was 650 bux...CHEAP
considering what I learned...

BUI can be bad, you did OK though... :)

I think Barstow stopped drive outs. May need to find someone to tow it just outside the maingates and drive it off. Other than the cargo cover being on backwards, truck looks great! You did good my friend!!

Eviioiive you should think about getting some insurance to drive or have it driven, plus a moivng permit would help if pulled over, I didn’t drive any of my trucks home I decided the risks were to high with an unknown truck, on the other hand many have had no trouble at all. if you decide not to drive it, I can PM you with the info to someone with a nice truck and a Land-all trailer with winch to have it hauled if he has the time and wants to do it (He has a paving company) his price is also fair, he hauled all mine home. Let me know if you want his contact info.

When you do pick up the truck at Barstow they may have changed it, but you were allowed to drive/ tow stuff out but you were no longer allowed to add fluids or perform any maintenance until out the gate, I have towed trailers out no problem but put the mag lights on off gl site. You will need a copy of your paid in full invoice to pick up the truck and it’s good to use to get on base, also to get on base you will need your DL, reg for the vehicle your driving and proof of insurnce for it. Oh and you need to call and make an apointment for pickup/ loadout or you may drive up and they don’t have time for you!

Also Welcome to the site, nice looking truck and apears to be a smoking deal, you just missed the Socal Pre-doomsday meet:

Artisan and anyone else who reads this as far as in California smog, The New California C.A.R.B Diesel law does not take effect until jan 2015, he can drive it all he wants no smog worrys until 2015 at which case all Commercial Registered Diesel powered over 14,000lbs manufactures GVW any year older than 2010, require the truck or engine be replaced with a 2010 or newer top tier engine with all related emission equipment, there is only 2 real exemptions for our trucks 1 is Historic registration, 2 is RV registration not used for commercial purposes. when you read the law you will see a military vehicle exemption, it does not apply to us only Govt owned vehicles, and yes this includes deuces the multifuel is not exempt CARB told me still primarilary a diesel due to compression ignition and no these are not pickup bed trucks they are considered stake/ cargo trucks.

Heres a link to the regulation, the main thing to read is the final regulation order on the regulation page.

A lot of useful information - thanks guys. Ill probably be harassing a couple of you within the next week. My friend's brother owns a good sized construction company and his friend's family owns one of the larger towing companies in Southern California, so I might be able to pull this off without too much trouble..maybe. As far as registering the thing, I'm hoping for historical because it's definitely not getting a new engine...

If I put a porto potty in the bed, a chemical sprayer filled with water, a mattress, and an old tv will it pass for an RV?
