I was able to rescue my GovPlanet Refugee M1123 on Tuesday and then proceeded to head off to Thanksgiving. Upon my return today was able to spend a little time with the Humvee and today will forever be the day of surprises. I was able to remove some paint and reveal the RUC numbers and learned that this m1123 belonged to the Third Civil Affairs group in Great Lakes, IL. Unfortunately I also learned upon inspection that the glow plugs were missing, the engine had no oil in it, the oil pan had a few bolts holding it on and lastly there is a hole in each side of the engine oil pan. I will remove the oil pan tomorrow, but highly suspect a bad rod. The engine on this machine is toast unfortunately and now I guess I have to figure out the best course of action to get it driving again. I honestly was hoping for the best with this and I also believe that GovPlanet manipulated the listing in their favor. They identified that components from the fuel system were missing, which the fuel pump is, and it so happens that one of the holes is close enough to where someone noticing that the fuel pump was gone would have also seen the hole. Stay tuned as I figure out how to get this back on the road. I’m unsure if Ironclad will be of any benefit… anyways enjoy the photos!
