Hitch Spacer for M923

I ordered a Curt Manufacturing 14082 Class IV Receiver for my M923 truck. I had to remove the pintle hook as to make it fit. I am finding out I am still high by about 12" with the receiver as to hook up my 30' Toy Hauler. I thought about purchasing a drop hitch but based on weight and some other factors, I don't thing this would be safe (even at 10000 I could possibly bend the trailer ball mount). My thought was to mount 8" spacers made of 2x4x.25 wall thickness rectangular structure tubing. I would mount the spacer to the frame and then the hitch to the spacers. I plan to use 1/2-13 grade 9 bolts to fasten it all together. This 8" spacer would drop the hitch down enough to hitch the toy hauler. (3" drop with trailer ball mount).

My question is; do any of you see a problem with this? I performed some calculations (yes, I am an engineer but have not practice engineering for about 10 years) and found it to be okay.

Any help would greatly be appreciated! I need to have this hitch problem resolved asap.

Thanks

Some of the larger weight distribution hitches actually have a good size drop to them and are rated high enough. I dont see a problem with the spacer approach but it might be better to just use the right size drop hitch as long as it also has the tow rating you need.

there are quite a few drop hitches rated for the 10,000lbs your talking about.

Thanks for the information. I will be posting of what I did to one of the 10K hitches... I bent it and bent it good. I am fabricating the spacers now and will be posting them shortly, as with them installed on the truck.
