I vaguely recall, from 30+yr ago, a Army manual that had techniques for emplacing on the battlefield a small genset to quiet it. As I recall, tech was dig and place in a shallow hole with sandbags around it.

Any idea what manual would have such info?

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. I guess I should have considered with looking for ancient lost knowledge to look in a book of ancient knowledge. vs the TM for MEP003.

Bought a portable genset that I can run on LP (7kw w/Briggs). A damn chicom engine that apparently is rated as pretty reliable. Bought used so I didn't give the chicoms any money. But NOISY.

Have MEP002, 003, 004 w/hush, 007 w/enclosure, 531, 831 and 803.

The 004, 007 not bad for noise, the 803s is great. But none will run on NG or LPG.

Ok One is normal (I have 4 now), two is for spare parts, three is a collector's inventory, but what is it called when you have 7? Also most run out of hiding (from the spouse) places after 2. Just funning you.

Crap. I went from 0-5 in one week. I guess I’m above a collector? I should probably sell a few

It’s called M-thrax. It could be trucks, jeeps, tanks, generators.... It doesn’t matter. There is no know cure. Once you have it, you’re stuck with it. I’ve Been dealing with it for years.🙁

I've had a dozen here at once over various times. Herds been thinned lately, but I won't lie saying it was a reassuring feeling knowing I get pick of the litter.

Long ago I read a car collector SOP. - Buy house with large backyard (for the chiluns). Buy a old Bus or similar and park at the far end of the backyard and park your accumulation on the far side of the bus. As needed, move the bus closer to the house. 99 out of 100 women won't walk out back to see what is behind "that ugly old bus"/far side of the moon.

I remember once I was at Ft Belvoir Virginia at a LARS conference don't remember what that stands for Guy probably knows but they are liaisons between the military and contractors and I was representing Fermont.
Any way, this one LARS asked me what could we (Fermont) do to keep the gensets from ingesting the powdery sand in Iraq when they put them in the holes. And this Officer stood up and said why the hell would you put a TQG in a hole in the desert and the LARS said that's what SOP is, dig a hole and place the generator set in it, and the officer flipped out "what do you think the Q stands for".

When a "smart" S3 type has no idea what is in the MTOE, what it will do/features. And too dumb to revise the unit SOPs. (Or a unit full of NCOs that are to passive aggressive to ask questions/act.)
