I just took it for a spin around the neighborhood last night to make sure everything was hooked up right, some time this week I'll take it on the highway to check it out for real. Runs smooth and actually seems to idle a bit quieter according to my phone's dB meter. Not sure why that is, the turbo blanket shouldn't make much difference at idle but I'm happy with any reduction.

Probably the newer map has more refined injection timing. Injection timing and number of injection events per combustion stroke (yes there can be more than one) all plays a HUGE part in the noise of the engine at idle. Had a rep from Isuzu that showed us how he could dramatically change the engine sound and make it significantly quieter with their stratified injection that used multiple injection events at idle to reduce engine noise significantly. So much so that with it on vs. off made the difference of being able to talk to someone near the machine or requiring ear-pro.

All of the many changes I've made to my truck - ECO hubs, engine mounts, 370 HP map, etc - in conjunction with the A1R insulation already present - it is astonishing to get back into an unmodified truck and realize just how much improvement I have made. It's a totally different truck really,

Just had a new fuel line made and I didn’t notice until I got home that the hose shop used 5/16” ID nylon hose instead of 3/8”. Should I have them remake me a 3/8” hose, or will 5/16” suffice? With the 370 hp tune I don’t want to run into fuel starvation issues due to fuel line restrictions.

If error was shops, definitely have remade. Your error? What is max fluid flow from 5/16 @ prescribed pressure? What is max fluid flow for 3/8" @ prescribed pressure? If amount is negligible, and I do mean small, then you could try it. I would simply have hose remade, done and over with.....KISS (Keep It Simple S$#pid)

Shop's error, I handed them the original hose and asked for an identical one. Original is 3/8" hose with 3/8" JIC 6 fittings, so I'm not sure why they made me one with 5/16" hose with the 3/8" fittings. I'll take it back tomorrow and ask for one with the correct 3/8" hose.

Flow rate is hard to estimate as it gets into length of the hose, number and degree of bends in the hose, etc. Easier to just replace like for like and not have unintended consequences.

And yet again I found another item to add the to-do list, the drag link boots have disintegrated so I ordered some Energy Suspension 9.13126G boots to replace them.

Yeah. Congratulations on fixing the bushing!
You will feel a difference in the "ride quality" immediately.

Sad to say, the other side is a bit more of a PITA to get at...

Took a few road trips and now have around 1000 miles with the 370 hp tune and it definitely wakes the truck up a bit. Much improved acceleration around town, and it maintains speed better up mountain passes, although it is still obviously no speed demon. Realistically I'm now maintaining ~50 mph comfortably up the passes vs. struggling at ~40 mph with the 275 hp.

Been a busy week! Took the truck on another camping trip, finally installed my HIMARS commander's hatch, and then went on a 600 mile round trip to visit the parents and take part in my little home town's 4th of July parade.

Out with the old (forgive the half-assed black paint job, the truck came that way...).


In with the new.




Since we didn't have a crane, we made due with what we had - the deck on my house and a ramp made from a couple 2x4s wedged between the deck rail and the the M1079 box. We carried the hatch up through the house and then carefully slid it down the ramp onto the truck roof, it worked great and nobody died. The hatch is sealed onto the cab with 3 rings of butyl tape and a bead of Dynaflex Ultra around the rim and on the bolts for good measure (we drove through a rain storm on the way home today and it passed the waterproof test).

The day after we got the hatch on we drove to Valdez, AK so we could take part in the 4th of July parade. My daughter and her friend made good use of the hatch during the parade, and we were even able to get my wheelchair-bound dad into the truck via creative use of a ramp at the local skate park.

Very nice! I think we may be the only two A1R M1079's on the planet with the crew protection cab commanders hatch. Love mine - there's no better way to get onto the roof.
