Joining the MKT90 family

Been lurking here for a while now, and been looking at the MKT trailers. I got lucky today and won an auction for an MKT90 that is in El Paso. I have no idea what is inside, because they didn't show any pictures of it. I'll pick it up next Friday, and hopefully be able to post some pictures on here of what all is inside. Cross your fingers and wish me luck.

Welcome to the $100,000.00 GI hot dog cooker. I have one that was basically bare and outfitted with surplus from Govliquidation and Ebay. Tips Do not set up without putting corner ground posts down and locked! Do not put up awning without either the sides installed or straps from the roof awning to the floor as wind will pick up tent poles from floor holes and you will have a mess. Youtube has some videos of kitchens in action. Main problem is that there is no real sink as Army used field sanitation tent with three MBU burners under sinks with tables and drying racks. Field sanitation units are hard to come by as government seems to junk the tubs in aluminum scrap lots. I am thinking of a three bowl sink on wheels to go in the isle . I want to see what the county food safety agency says is safe as I am not sure diesel burners are allowed. have fun and post pictures. Mark

Well, I got her back from El Paso, but it took me 14 hours to pick it up, air up the tires, tie it down (multiple times), and hit the road. It road great, and I was able to go 75 mph, but I hit rain just outside of El Paso and it stayed with me for about 300 of the 450 miles, so things slowed way down.

I got really lucky with everything inside, and it had 4 MBU's V3, and 2 MBU's. It had the new Cambro ice cooler with all the tent walls iinside. Also inside were 14 tea dispensers, 6 mermites, or actually the new cambro food servers, 5 water cans and various utensils.

The stoves were in good shape, and had the pots and pans inside. One of the pots has a whole burned in it, so that one will be tossed. The griddle is warped, but usable, and the cabinets are going to need some TLC.

A few more of the goodies. The power inverter works, as well as both lights.In the last picture is 2 wooden field tables.

Things I need to fix, is the trailer plug. I'll convert it to an RV plug for my truck. I've already flipped the pintle lunette (which is no easy task), and I'm going to have to figure out how to repair the vinyl roof. It isn't ripped, but some of the covering has come off, so it's gonnna leak something fierce in those spots.

And since I had nothing else going on today, I decided to put the mosquito netting up.

Things I'm missing is the crank for leveling the legs. I think I can make one from a spare socket and metal tubing. It's either a 1/2 or 7/16. Both of the side travel covers. But the big thing I'm missing is the 4 outlet power cable that connects to the MBU's, and the 2 outlet power cable for the stoves. . I looked high and low for it, and emptied all the cabinets, but alas, I didn't have any luck.

I'm a member of the Jaycees here in Sweetwater, and we do a Veteran's Day feed on Nov. 11th every year. This event has gone from 30 participants, to now over 150. We were hoping to use the MKT to feed at the event, but without the 4 outlet power cable, the 2 outlet power cable, and the refilling hose, I'm dead in the water. If anyone has any spare power cables, and the refilling hose for the MBU's, that they are willing to sell me, or know of a place that I can purchase one, I, as well as my fellow Jaycees, would be forever in your debt. I know the vets would love to see this thing working.

Hmmm, and after doing a little more research, I'm also missing a crossover cable as well. Man there's a lot of stuff on these trailers!!!

You don't need the refill hose. You can fill the mbu thought the fill plug on the side. They will burn for hours. The crank handles are just sq tubing. I made some for mine.

Thanks, I was thinking they were just square tubing. I take it I need 1/2 square tubing? I didn't see the fill plug on the side, but I'll look again tomorrow. Now if I can just find the cables, I'll be doing great.

I think it was 1" with a thick wall. I'll check later today and let you know.

Sorry, I just re-read some of my post, and it sounds like I'm begging. My apologies. I was hoping to have this thing done in time for the feed, but it's way too close. I may try and figure out some way to rig up a cord to test the burners out. From the look of things, It's just 2 wires, so I'll pull out my trusty volt meter, and do some testing. I'm like a kid at Christmas with all his new toys. This thing might get me in trouble with the girlfriend.

I checked and it's 1" tubing with 1/16" wall.

The round military plug on the outside of the MBU has a more common plug about 6-8" to the inside. It's a weather proof type use in automotive wiring. They are Delphi Packard metri-pack 280 series (I think on the 280 part). You could get some of these and make your self a set of cables and not have too cut the factory wire harness.

Looks like you have most of the equipment with your unit. I have to fuel up my burners and try the inverter. I have cooked with the big flat roaster pan that I found at Salvation Army store. I think youtube has some video by pitmaster T ???? who seems to get a lot out of the cooker. My unit still had spices from Sams and was covered with a layer of yellow clay mud on the foot boards. My trailer came from Indianapolis and I pulled it home with my Chevy C-30 with a Army trailer on the bed.
