Hello Everyone,

Just purchased a HMMWV and getting ready to take the adventure! This seems to be the place for info so I thought I would start my research now, I am guessing it is going to need a new start box / starter / alternator or batteries since it won't restart without a jump (per the action info) so I'll be spending some time here seeing if I can find anyone else with similar issues.

Looking forward to this, although I am guessing to be 3-6 months before I can get my hands on it, we will see! Thanks everyone for the help in advance!

Thanks guys! This is what I got, seemed like a reasonable deal. This will be for moving heavy things in difficult off road conditions so I don't plan on doing much to it other than get it running well.

Welcome to the Outfit!

Already posting pics. Be sure to post some of your own when you go fetch your new toy.

It will be worth your time to spend a little time with the TM's (Technical Manuals). Especially the "Dash 10" that explains how to start and operate your new to you vehicle. That will save you some money (after you burn up your start box) if you read those few pages on how to start it...

Thanks! Any preferred place I should be looking to pick them up?
Not particularly. Just make sure it's origianal and not a Chinese knockoff. Many people here swear by the vendors on this forum. I bought mine off ebay to save $10 because I'm cheap.

Also don't start your truck until it's installed and you've checked all the fluids.

thanks! Did any of yours come with a CDR valve?

Also, did you stick with original seats or upgrade to something else?

no cdr valves. i stuck with the stock hi back seats. most were in great condition. i looked mainly at Yermo Ca. i also recieved the new Revision motors and trans. All were not running and had zero fluids in them. It was like they installed everything but were going to store them until meeded is my belief. All have AC and now are running great. I just bought my second set of X doors that were expensive

Thanks, I am not going to try and figure out if I should try and register it in NV or try the dirt legal thing and also figure out insurance... Also, waiting for the SF-97 that I didn't realize will take 30-60 days after the EUC has been approved....

Well here it is! I guess the reason it needs "jump" to get started was b/c there were no batteries! I am planning on just getting 2x group 24 batteries from Costco, unless there is a better suggestion. The things is of course incredibly filthy, is there is special precautions I should take when cleaning it off, or just scrub and hose it down?

A pair of Group 24s should be just fine.

Cleaning it will be a mess, but if you aren't removing paint you should be okay.
Report back with any neat "finds"...

I guess there is a different CDR for HMMWV with the deep water fording kits. I would like to see if I can get it running this week, what are people's thoughts on just using a regular for a short time ( few minutes / hours of run time ) until I get the Deep Water Fording version?

If you don’t plan on having a deep water fording kit the normal cdr will work just fine forever. Just plug any open hoses. Also, +1 on trading the operator manual so you don’t damage things - it’s short. Easy stuff like how to start it correctly and use the transfer case.
