Leaf spring eye bolts ???

My front leaf springs are shot, and the rear U-bolts are rotted out. So I'm doing a small 2-1/2" lift using a combination of a skyjacker lift kit and ORD shackle flip & U-bolt flip. I figured while I was at it I would replace the spring eye bolts. But I'm having trouble finding a compete kit. I can buy all the individual bolts from LMC, but at a cost of around $100.00.

You can buy these parts new/used. I also can give you Stanley Springs Harrisburg PA. they have a web site. I buy every nut , bolt shackle, clamping plate. Any thing suspension related. Hey I get by there often in my business. I might even have what you need. Send me a picture rengle523@comcast.net Good used parts are just as good as new in my world. I just came back from the YOUPULLIT and picked up some rocker panel molding clips for my Cadillac. they were freebies and they were $4.5 each my cost and I need 4 and would have to buy 10 from GM. I picked up 10 and a full size aluminum matching spare tire and wheel for $10. Let me know. I am going up to Harrisburg this week. Big Red loves screaming up and down I 81 / I 83 on the capital hub.

I do have a lot of M1009 rear u bolts and plates that are in great shape. I tend to save parts in bins that I disassembled 20+ years ago. Although new ones are available and not really expensive. Are you needing me back in the parts business?:confused:

Are we talking about the bolts holding the leafs to the spring perches? Why not just head to a hardware store and match it up with some grade 8 hardware? I can't recall if they're 9/16 or 1/2".

Spring bolts are not a place to cut corners to save a couple of dollars. Find a local spring shop and buy the correct bolts from them.

I did figure I could just go to the ACE hardware but I wont know what size they are until I get them all pulled off. I think the rear most ones are different then the rest? Also I doubt the hardware store would have enough in stock not to mention cost. I figured it would be cheaper & easier to just order a kit.

an SAE grade 8 bolt is an SAE grade 8 bolt and has a minimum tensile strength of 150,000 psi for a 9/16 bolt. I think he'll be ok.

The problem with going to the hardware store is finding the correct shoulder on the bolt , you don't want any threads in the bushing or the frame , you want a nice snug fit to the bolt shoulder.

Hey WISE GUY I can read fine. I did give him a name and address for a suspension company and I offered to assist him in any way I can. So if you can take a long walk on a short pier. No need for the class in bolt strength. He didn't ask that either. Take your attitude out and kick your dog.

I think I comprehended rear U bolts. they are the 5/8" fine thread bolts that go around the rear axle and hold the axle fast to the leaf springs. How am I doing so far? I think you are allowed to reuse them rear U bolts if you torque them to spec. Or am I not Comprehending what Drock is doing?
Please explain what part I missed about a hardware store not having the U Bolts for vehicle applications. Thank You.

Take one out. I'm pretty sure you want 9/16 x7". Trim the excess. Get some sort of locking nut. Stover or nylock. Prefer stover because of heat in the areas. Front shackles are 7/16". Same trim to fit for the shoulder.

He stated in his first post that he ordered a u bolt flip kit. I didn't say anything about your reading ability, you seem to lack comprehension of what you've read. So instead of the passive aggressive threats towards me, how about you take this as a lesson in humility and you try reading people's posts, rereading them to make sure you understood what they were asking and learn from your mistakes. The rear spring front "eyebolt" should be a grade 8 "Flanged" NC thread with a "Flanged" Stover nut. My M1028 uses a 9/16" . I have never seen any "Hardware" store carry any such bolt or nut. Now my specialty bolt and nut store "Tacoma Screw" does carry them. As does Fastenal. As far as calling the front eyebolt a "Perch" well I can see how people could get confused. The perch is where you mount the differential too. It uses 'U' bolts to secure it.

The OP never mentioned if it was a M1009 or a M1008 variant , but the Dana 60 has 2 bolts that thread into the axle housing to secure the passenger side spring along with 1 U-Bolt.

FWIW, I would recommend changing the two bolts to studs, sold by a variety of suppliers.

I like the studs, I didn't even think of that!
As for the shackles, FOR NOW, I just want to replace the stock bolts fast & cheap. I was thinking of doing a set of those revolver shackles in the distant future. But again FOR NOW I just want to have a set of stock replacements on hand incase the old ones are rusted into place and a have to cut them. This M1028 is the sole means of transportation for both my business & me. Thus I need to have it up and running ASAP after I take it apart.
