No the linkages are the same.Do you have to swap the shift linkage bracket on the trans. or are they the same?
The 700r4 is a 1/2 an inch longer, but the rubber bushing in the cross-member take up the additional length without having to drill new holes in the frame. The drive shafts remain the same length. How much longer is the 700r4 than the 400
Wanting to do a conversion on my m1031. I have a fresh 4L80E just need the electronic controller box about 100$ but not sure if i want use it or just build a 700. Did you have to shorten the drive shaft?
Thanks for getting back to me!Trans swap is cheaper. I could come get the truck and do the swap for you. There would be a pickup and delivery charge, but if the shop your working with doesn't know what they are doing it might cost you more for them to do it, then to have me come pick it up swap it then deliver it back to you. What parts do you have?
The drive shafts do not need to be changed, nor does the crossmember. Yes a new torque convertor is a must for it to properly work with the 6.2. You will need a different transfer case that will bolt to the 700r4. Do you have a m1008 or m1028?
Great thread Jeff!
Paul,
Pulling a small trailer with ATV's, at highway speeds, you might not get the best use out of that setup. The 6.2 probably doesn't have the umph to maintain OD gear without frequently shifting to 3rd. 3rd gear is the same 1:1 at 3rd in your TH400 and if it is shifting a lot defeats it's purpose and will burn up that 700.
I could be wrong, I've had that trans with other vehicles with similar power, but not the 6.2 itself. Maybe others could chime in.
I will be doing another 700r4 install on Friday, your more than welcome to come up and check it out.I really wanted to do the NV4500 swap, but finding all the parts, pedals, and then having a shifter smacking my daughter's car seat when she's in there with us is making the 700 swap more likely.
You're actually only a few hours north of me and I have a lot of family in your area. I found your FB page, so I'll keep you in mind when I decide what I want to do.
