Well, my "Little Deuce Coupe" got to stretch her legs today on a trip to Sparta for the purpose of recovering my newly won M105A2 trailer. This was a 400 mile round trip consisting of mostly interstate driving. The trip was uneventful and the only activity needed for the recovery was to fill up the left tire on the trailer... a truly "Plug & Play" recovery.

The Deuce was all a-glow as she pulled into the familiar surroundings of a Military Base and she felt right at home following those two HumVees that pulled out in front of us.

For those who may be interested, here are the vital statistics on the Deuce during our return trip pulling the M105:

Ambient Temperature: 85 degrees
Speed: 50 MPH
Engine RPM: 2,500-2,600 RPM (just below redline)
Oil Pressure: 60 PSI
Water Temperature: 180 Degrees
Transmission Oil Temperature: 175 Degrees (still has 15W40 oil in transmission)

BTW, I have never changed the fluids since I recovered the A3 last October. Instead, I sent samples to Blackstone Laboratories for analysis and they informed me that the fluids were good for at least another 3,000 miles. I'll be sending another set of samples next week. This is to me more cost-effective than changing the oil at fixed intervals/mileage - That is why the Military does their own analysis.

Here is a photo of the A3 with the newly recovered trailer still attached. I got no racks, bows or tarp, but I got a trailer that was completly refurbished (and painted CARC green) in Oct of 2010 Bows, Racks and Tarp can come later.

Pete, Thanks for the kind remarks. I was really blessed when I won this Deuce last August. Only serious deficiencies were a rotted cab cover (already replaced) and a major CTIS leak in the front rear axle. I hope to have the CTIS leak fixed by July :)

Hi Guys, I have a 96 A3 and it is in great shape except for some surface rust. I drive it around town with insurance and all other things that make it legal to drive on the road. My truck only does 40 MPH @ 2600 RPM s and I hear a lot of other trucks doing 50 Plus on the hwy! What could be wrong, all my gauges read good numbers, motor runs great and trans seems to shift through all the gears. I need help! Thanks

Mine will do about 2850rpm's and do about 52 with stock tires. Now that I have the 395's I can get up to 55mph. There's a lot of debate as to how fast you can run the motor. You'll have to judge for your self on how fast you want to run it. Sounds to me that your right on for 2600, but best to get a gps and check it that way.

Mine is actually engaged all the time, so my clutch isnt bad according to the no air test. what could it be that makes it always engaged???

The piece on the front of the fan is an air powered clutch mechanism that unlocks the fan and lets it freewheel when the engine is cold and locks the fan to the hub if the engine reaches a certain temperature. According to the tech manual, if it freewheels with no air pressure to it there is a problem it should lock up until supplied with air.

Those 395's installed on the MRAP rims?

Something to consider if the M35a3 is bobbed as in pic [TurboTim] but those tires look very close together on the rear axles [michaelpilot1].

I wonder how much "taller" the M35a3 sits with this tire/rim combination?
