M936 Winch Cable Roller Guide

I believe this is my first post and I hope I don't screw it up. I'm going through my M936 fixing mostly small things and this site has been a technical marvel with a ton of useful information, however, I have a problem that I can't find a previous post for, and I also haven't been able to find the answer in any of the TM's I have. I'm trying to figure out how the cable roller guide that sits on top of the rear 45k Lb.winch comes apart. The problem is the section on top with the rotating cup holding the cable pulley wheel is frozen. I have taken the only bolt I can see holding the two pieces together out and have been trying to separate the bottom section with the cast in cup from the piece holding the pulley wheel that's supposed to allow the wheel to rotate when winding or unwinding the cable.. I've applied some serious force (2 ton) and it does not want to separate. Has anyone had experience taking this apart and if so, can you tell me how it's done before I break something?

I don't remember the steps to take it apart, just that there are set screws under a lip holding it down. I do remember how really heavy it is. Be careful. Also the well where the assembly rotates seems to have no drain holes, allowing it to fill with water and snow and rust up the ball bearings in the bottom. Its a real job to clean and lube but very satisfying to have it spool cable nicely. The front winch I've found hardly ever spools correctly.

Look for zebadee's post about modifying the level winder. The rollers are normally what we call the big rollers on the fairlead.

Paul, thanks for the reply. I saw the two holes below the lip and cleaned the gunk out and tried to get a hex key wrench in without luck before posting. I will have to go back and clean the gunk out a little bit better I guess. At least now I know what I'm supposed to be doing and don't feel so lost. I really appreciate your help.

Jeff, Thanks for the information on the post for the level winder modification. I'll check it out as my roller bearings are completely froze up.

Check for "threads started by" spicergear. I'm fairly certain he took a level wind apart to service.
