M998 TRANSMISSION

what type of tranmission is in a 1992 M998 with a 6.2 engine and 3 spped trans? and is it the same as a transmisson found in a civilian vehicle with same transmission?

also is there a cooler inside the tranmission?

There are free technical manuals TM’s on this forum brother. Take a few to download them. There starts your road to salvation on all things HMMWV.

Members are always happy to answer questions, but this also gives you tools to read. Confusing at first. Hang in there.

Civilian Turbohydramatic 400s have park.
The military unit is exactly the TH400 unit BUT it is missing the transmission park lock. You can add it to your transmission should you choose.

There are some excellent threads here on the transmission options. It is common for us to convert to a 4L80 as you get Park, plus the ability for higher top speed.

There are some excellent threads here on the transmission options. It is common for us to convert to a 4L80 as you get Park, plus the ability for higher top speed.
Requires a minimum of new torque converter, new flywheel, new driveshafts, new 4L80e tranny, new shifter with new shifter shifter rod mechanism, new tranny crossmember support, new aftermarket custom programmed computer control for tranny, miscellaneous wiring.

I did a 700R4 swap on my old M1025. New torque converter, new flywheel, new shifter and tranny rod mechanism, no change of flywheel or computer or crossmember. If you get the shift down cable wrong you will torch the tranny.

I suggest you keep your rig as-is and sell it and then purchase an ECV from RWH. You will save money in the long run.

It seems everyone is getting off subject, the OP simply asked what type of transmission he had that's all.
If you want to talk about 4l60/700R4 conversions that is best left to the mods forum, don't hijack this thread.
