M998 U-Joint cross overs

I had a drive shaft break and replacing parts. The cap on the front shaft that comes out of the front diff and is in the Center support bearing lost a cap, so I'm looking to replace it.

Searing on ebay comes up with a 5-174x spicer. However, on my u-joint, one side has B7, the other side 151. In TM9-2320-280-24P Figure 136-2 shows it as item 21.

Item 21 21 KFOZZ 95019 2-5-848X .CROSS ASSEMBLY PART OF KIT P/N 5- 1 213X................................

I'm going to guess this is a spicer 5-213x?

Also, I broke 2 bolts in the yoke coming out of the front of the transfer case. Per the parts manual,

1 PAOZZ 5340011900807 95019 2-70-59 STRAP,RETAINING USE WITH T-CASE P/N 4 12340073-1.......................... UOC:H11,H13,H14,H15,H16,H17,H18,H20, H21,H24,H25,H26,H27,H28,MMM

1 PAOZZ 5340011900807 95019 2-70-59 STRAP,RETAINING USE WITH T-CASE P/N 2 5937387,12342643-1 AND 12447125.....

If anybody can confirm if the 5-213x is actually a spicer #. Also any idea of a spicer part # on the straps, I'd appreciate it.

I found 12339301 on HPG site which look to be the same.

I'll post if no response and get it figured out.

Thanks

Are the TMs available for these vehicles?

I like to look up the part number or nsn then google that.

Parttarget will tell all the manufactures and thier part numbers by nsn.

Update -
Went to Napa and 5-213x doesn't work, it's too wide to fit into the yoke that goes into the front of the transfer case.

We tried their napa crossover as well as a spicer 5-213. Tip to tip is too long but about 1/4" to 1/2".

The guy there measured and found UJ430. However two of the "caps" are slightly bigger than the others. 2 fit in the yoke that requires the restraining straps however, the other two I don't think I'll be able to get them in the driveshaft. But it appears I can take the caps off my other u-joint and put on these which is what I'm going to do until I find the right U-Joint.

What they crossed over 2-70-18X wasn't an exact fit. The bolts with that are too large and the strap isn't tall enough to touch the base of the yoke. The holes line up and you could probably get it to work, you either have to tighten down and bend the straps, use washers or leave a gap.

Plus you have to use your old 1/4 x20 bolts.

I ordered 2-70-18X off Amazon and hopefully get to see those straps actually are correct.

All I did is recognize the spicer numbers in your post. I did not look up by application.

They do make conversion ujoints with different caps diameters to accommodate changes to yokes with 2 sets of different caps.

The strap number I crossed over / superceded on the dana/spicer website. It normally comes with bolts.

Good luck on the hunt.

They didn't have the spicer for the staps and their cross match in store brand wasn't 100% exact. The bolts that came with it was a size or two bigger and wouldn't work.

They actually did have the Spicer 5-213x in stock and again the cap span was too great. The part number you posted was the same.

I've seen them advertised on ebay as 5-174x being the proper size but that didn't work either. The ujoin has made in the USA b7 on one side and QF and 151 on the other side. I haven't figured out what that is yet.

those numbers don't mean anything to me. I don't ever recall crossing over ujoints by casting numbers as they normally do not have any. We always looked up by application or measured caps and cross and used that ole fashioned thing called a buyers guide catalog made of paper :)

I suspect those are manufacture dates or batch codes for quality control and will not lead to any help.

Those more knowledgeable with the different heavier frames and differential upgrades might have insight as to what it could be?

Napa part UJ430 is the u-joint I got. On their website,

Bearing Cap O.D. 1 1.063"
Bearing Cap O.D. 2 1.125"
Construction 2 ISR (Inside Retained) & 2 OSR (Outside Retained)
Inside Lock Up 1 2.375"
Lube Fitting Location In Cross
Outside Lock Up 2 3.218"
Series Ford

The smaller cap works so I'm going to say it's 1.063" is the correct size. The one that came out the bearing caps are all the same size.

Searching on cap size 1.063", I found a Spicer 5-153x. Universal Joint Style Spicer 1310

Bearing Cap Style:
4 plain
Bearing Cap Diameter (in) Axis 1:
1.063 in.
Width Overall (in) Axis 1:
3.218 in.
Bearing Cap Diameter (in) Axis 2:
1.063 in.
Width Overall (in) Axis 2:
3.218 in.

That's got to be it. Then the 2-70-18x says it's a strap kit for the 1310 & 1330 series U Joints. I'll try to find one of those and test it out.

Also, on amzn it mates a ACDelco 45U0504 Clamp kit with it.

Tadd TD-329 1310 also looks to have the same dimensions

Napa TWD 5153X

isnt there a lip somewhere that holds the caps on?
Could that be wht the propshaft failed?
No it just broke. The U joint broke and an ear off the shaft broke and then 2 of the bolts in the retaining strap broke. But I can't tell which was the cause because towing it out caused some of it. If I had to guess, the u joint broke and then ear on the shaft and retaining bolts on one side broke towing it out when it got in a bind with the transfer case.

As I stated somewhere else, either there was something weak in one of these two components or they aren't made to do too much. I was just trying to get up a hill of mulch I usually make it up. It was just a little damp and was spinning. Nothing caught because there were no rocks or roots and ground is damp with all the mulch.

2-70-18x Spicer Bearing Strap kit looks to be the correct one for from ujoint.
The 5-153x just arrived and fits the yoke out of the transmission.

Just got a PM on this, Spicer 5-153x u-joint kit is what I recall working on the front drive shaft.

The spicer 2-70-18x Bearing strap kit is what I wrote down as working as well. I had zero luck at Napa for finding a crossover when I did this.

That is great info!! The TM is showing two different ones for the front so i am hoping someone will give some good info on the other one. Your part number is the one closest to the transfer case...correct? I want to replace all of mine since the shaft is out..
