I am looking at extending the 2 connections behind the control box. I want to move the box into my garage. Anyone see a problem with that? Anyone know a place to buy the male and female connectors to do that?

Those are canon plugs. You might try newark. Not positive but i think your gonna have a hard time finding them though in the same pattern. You would probably be easier getting a spool of white wire, cut, solder in extensions on each one. You can even dig up white heatshrink to seal the joint.

As stated above, you might have some trouble finding the proper connectors. To get the correct Mil-Spec part number, I'll bet you can find that in the TM. You could mark your wires and cut, add wire and extend to your garage location. The proper way would be to use a good quality butt splice and use shrink tubing over the splice, tape well with Scotch #33. Just my 2 cents.

The connectors are not hard to find at all. They are standard Amphenol circular connectors, readily available at Newark Electronics. They are easy to find and order once you learn to decypher the Amphenol catalog (and some people have trouble with the TM's, they ain't seen nothin yet). Will they be cheap...not by a long shot!!!

The part numbers from the TM are the manufacturer part numbers, with slight differences. But for all intents and purposes are what you want.

The part numbers you want for your project are as follows...

97-3106a32-7s This is the larger connector that will screw into the back of the control box.
97-3101a32-7p This is the larger connector that will screw into the wiring harness left on the generator after you relocate the control box.

ms3106a20-22s This is the smaller connector that will screw into the back of the control box.
ms3101a20-22p This is the smaller connector that will screw into the wiring harness left on the generator after you relocate the control box

The parts that start with 97 are the civilian version of the connector. The ones starting with ms are the "Military Standard" connectors because that particular pin/contact configuration in only available in the military product line.

On all of those part numbers you will need to call Newark and get quotes on prices for them. They are not listed currently in their catalog but they will be able to get them for you. When they get the price quotes from Amphenol, they should assign their own catalog numbers to them. Once this is done, please post up the Newark catalog numbers, corresponding Amphenol part number and quoted cost for each part. That way we will have the information for future reference, in case someone else wants to do this same kind of project.

Hey speddmon, wont he need pins and sockets? Different sizes for different gauge wires. Not sure if they will come as a kit with the pins and sockets or not. Duetz and all the other brand connectors are usually seperate.

The big one
http://www.newark.com/amphenol-industrial/ms3106r32-7s/circular-connector-plug-size-32/dp/96J9488

I got a slightly different part number than Speddmon so you might want to double check.
If I am right then the NSN was updated to
5935-01-070-3681

I found some in stock as surplus. Most of the companies dont have websites you will need to google their phone number and give them an NSN.

I cant get the photo resized right... Will copy contact info

The part numbers I supplied are slightly off from the exact military numbers listed on the NSN. The reason being, they will be slightly cheaper because they are civi parts.

No, the Amphenol connectors come with the pins/sockets (p or s in the part number designates the difference) all together.

Ok I think I may have a lead on these guys! At least one that will not take my new car to get them. My next question and I can not find the answer is what are the awg wires they use? I think from looking at both of the connectors on the back there are 2 different awg wires. Anyone have any idea what size wires they are?

Most of the cables are 16 gauge & IIRC, a few 12 gauge pieces as well. If you look at the wire numbers in the harness, the last 2 digits of the wire number is the gauge.

The larger connector uses 7 #12 wires and 28 #16 wires.

I'm having troubles getting into the Amphenol catalog for the smaller one, but this information is readily available in the Amphenol catalogs. The part number has all the information you need, you just have to be able to decipher the Amphenol catalog.

Sometimes people on here scrap the generators.
You might be better off getting what you want from someone who is scrapping.
I would advertise in the classifieds. Also, check to see if the same connectors are used on the MEP-002, which will double your chances of getting what you want.
