Mep802a shorted out, running rough

Had some time today to fit the new injector, sealed up perfect. Doesn't smoke a bit, much smoother running too. Still alittle under powered, gonna try balancing the fuel pumps as Guy mentioned and see what I can get.

I set the pumps, as per the lister article Guy provided, and got it to pull 7200 watts without bogging. I believe I can tune it alittle better, but I'm afraid my fuel rail may be bent, as I could not really "feel" the rear pump through the start/stop lever when setting it, and when using a mirror to peek at the rail, the rear looks like it isn't as "centered" as the front one.

Hard to see, but if you look at the "tang" on the right side of the photo, it is bent in a way that holds the rail away from the pump slightly, and makes it more prone to pop out. I was surprised how easy it was to bend back. Hopefully now the rear pump will engage the rack better and I can get this thing buttoned up for good.

Well it is running as good as it gets without buying new pumps, I would replace them too, but kraft wants over 3 bills a piece so I'm gonna hold off on them. It will run all I need it to, no smoke, vibrates some still, but I'm happy.

I opened up the tank side of it and discovered the rubber piece that connects the filler neck to the tank disintegrated, looks to be 4 inches on the filler neck and 4 1/2 inches on the tank side. I will have to see if I can find something.

That could be a fuel problem. A restriction, or lack of fuel pressure. Describe the surge. Is it a short oscillation, without repeating itself? Or more like a "hunt", short often repeated? Or long, drawn out oscillation?

When first started(no load, 40 degrees F ambient) it begins long oscillation, gradually shorter, until finally leveling out. After warmed to 140-150 according to meter, when applying heavy load, it begins short oscillation, grower longer. When warmed fully the problem pretty much goes away.

I hope I haven't bent the rail to far back the other way. It felt very smooth though, and feels fine when moving the control lever, but I can see even a slight bind could cause an issue. Im gonna run it some, hopefully it is just some air in the lines, I didn't bleed very thoroughly this time.

I bent the fuel rail back just slightly to much, was able to reach my finger in the rear pump's hole and bend it back just a tad.

So if youre having trouble getting the rear pump to stay engaged to the fuel rail(and have tried setting the fuel control lever stop as Guy previously mentioned) your fuel rail could be bent. And if you bend it back to much, you can fix it without removing the front cover again.
