I'm new to Military Vehicles, but I've always wanted a Humvee since I first saw them in the 90's. (My ex was in the Army Reserves, she drove a regular M998 and Ambulance model.)

Finally got a chance to buy a titled, street legal one and jumped on it. Hopefully with her help, the motor pool guys she used to hang around with -- we can go over this one, fix anything wrong with it and keep it maintained.

My goal is occasional trips to Menards for building materials, but mostly parades and off-roading in pastures.

Looking forward to the challenges in maintaining this, and the fun of driving it.

Welcome to the outfit! Glad you got yourself a HMMWV!
The other two girls in the picture are pretty cute too.

Be sure to make use of the TM downloads here as a member. There are lots of tips and tricks. They are incredibly DRY reading, but you can find a lot of good info there. They have some the important stuff like the Lubrication Order so all the u-joints and other moving parts get a splash of grease. That isn't much fun, but getting cleaned up after - and a quick romp down the road will make you smile.

Post up a few more pictures when you get a chance.

Thanks for the welcome.

The middle one is a '67 Jeepster Roadster. I had a lot of fun rebuilding it (except for the motor I rebuilt it all). And I even kept the original paint!

The grease and fluids is an excellent suggestion. Prior to buying it, the dealer I got it from went over the entire vehicle and replaced all of the fluids (and greased it) per the TM. So I should be good for a few months while I figure out various things.

First spring. Figured I'd give an update.

The new control box and glow plugs worked wonders over the winter. Didn't drive it a lot, but drove it some. Each time it started quickly and was a lot of fun. Put a 2-man arctic top and doors on it as well, plenty warm even at 0F out.

Now that it's spring, I just installed a Guard Dawg M-24, and put it back to the military stop-run-start switch. In 6 months the key switch had already developed a 'hitch' in the run position where it would sometime have no power (like it was in stop). I'm hoping this keeps it safe from someone starting it at a parade or car show, while still allowing it to be convenient for me.

The first parade for this thing is in less than a month. So hopefully this weekend I can get the cargo seats installed. I'll be sure to get some pictures of it in the parade!

HMMWV was in the first parade of the year. I was off successfully acquiring COVID in Texas, so someone else was driving. Loaned the vehicle to the American Legion in Elko-New Market Minnesota for their parade.



I need to work on the hood (pretty badly cracked) and the paint.. but otherwise, it's perfect. They even wanted the tall antennas for the parade.

Only comment from the driver (other then it was a ton of fun) was driving 5 MPH in the parade gave him a good leg workout, he'd forgotten how "heavy" the break was compared to the civilian vehicles he drives these days.

Glad you were able to find a qualified driver too.

Sorry to hear that you managed to contract the creeping cruddy chinese virus. Happy that you survived the WooFlu and have made it to live another day.

Next year (or maybe even July 4th or Labor Day) parades are coming soon. Hopefully you can be there in the drivers seat!

Got my rapco 383 green just in time. Next parade is tomorrow and I wanted to clean up the bed for the people who have to sit there.

Looks good - and having the tan piece in a green truck is no different than our local Reserve Units. I see tan rims on green trucks and other assorted cannibalized additions to front line trucks.

I can imagine painting it later, but don't let that tan make you feel bad. Happy MV'ing tomorrow in the parade.

LOL the local Wrestling event ended up using the HMMWV for one of the wrestlers to “arrive” in. Apparently was a huge hit with the crowd.
