Also attached is the 355/410 hp flash "tune" that I think is what is is loaded into our EMC's. The file name for this is 2368687.fls which you can google as "CAT 236-8687". I have not confirmed that this is the correct flash file, but its all I have found so far. I also have the 505hp file if you're feeling brave :) **update** SS won't allow me to upload the flash file. If you want it, PM me your email address**

Lastly, I am new to all of this and not an expert. Adept Ape explains it in better detail here.

I found the correct flash file for our engines and the link is below.
Recap on how these work. The flash file is the HP/Torque tune and that cat PN# is 220-4352-00(see the attached picture). The configuration file are all the parameters of these trucks ie the coolant temp wiring style, tachometer signal, how the jake brake is wired etc. You will need both if you're replacing your ecu.

What version of Cat ET is needed to work w our trucks (MTVRs)?? To scan/test/reflash? Would 2019c work??

Im having trouble w my 03 Mk25, i think the engine ECM lost its memory (went to start it the other day, it just cranked and cranked, it had sat for 2 weeks or so, hadnt done anything to it since last time run ning it. TIM says the engine ecm is not found / not installed)

Want to get cat ET so i can scan / test / reflash truck (would like to be able to do other trucks down the road, why im going thru the hassle of getting software / hardware vs just having someone else fix ecm for me... besides i just like go do all my own work), just not sure on what version to get (had been planning on 2019c, but just read that military trucks might need something different?? Sidenote, i may have a line on 2020a for military vehicles...)

I plan on reflashing mine to at least the 505hp version, tho the 530 rwhp version sounds -real- interesting.

As a sidenote, im going to get test harness so i can hook directly to my ECM, bypass truck harness, so i can identify if its the ecm or truck wiring that has issue. (In addition to comm3 adapter of course, and adapters so i can also read from truck harness too)

2019a works fine no problems for me.

ANOTHER REMINDER!!!! ALWAYS COPY YOUR CONFIGURATION FROM YOUR TRUCK AND SAVE IT IN A SAFE PLACE AND EVEN MANUALLY WRITE DOWN YOUR INJECTOR TRIM CODES!!!!!! I totally forgot and flashed the 505 which 90% of the time resets your configuration and you will have to pull the valve cover at a minimum to get the injector trim codes if you forget this step.

Some indicators to support this is the 2100rpm limiter, the fact the computer lets the engine Jake to 2550rpm, steel pistons, massive cooling package, ext. The information on the 9SM is very limited and not exactly comparable to a 2ks.

Ive heard the same RE 9SM and 505hp factory tune... that it has all the critical parts necessary for the re-rate. Unlike earlier trucks like the 9 and 8 series 5tons, the gov't didnt spec out the weakest version of the engines (weak in terms of hp output and also in ability to turn up power wo changing hard parts.. or having design such that you really couldnt turn power up much. Witness naturally aspirated 855 small cam, no piston oilers.. or the 8.3 cummins with the less desirable injection pump and -allegedly- thin deck / light constructed block).

The military thinking wasnt WRONG tho. They wanted low power to keep drivers out of trouble. And wanted a truck that an 18 yo who didnt know anything and didnt care either could drive w throttle flat to floor as much as possible. Low power does help save other drivetrain components too (not enough to save 939 transfer cases tho...). And, then they just spec'd out a low perf engine where it would actually hold together pretty well ... at stock power level. But turning it up much could start taking a bunch of life out of it pretty quickly.

W the MTVR, it seems like they came at everything from opposite direction, they spec'd out really nice parts. And they went w great engine... and a top end version of engine too. They just stuck a lower performance tune in it, to still keep drivers out of trouble. But stock the MTVRs put out good power, even the detuned stock version moves along well.

And w MTVR they put great transmission, transfer case, axles, etc all that alomg w nice engine too. Dont hear about burning up trannies or transfer cases w these :) (im sure its happened somewhere, sometime, like any mechsnical thing theres gotta be a failure SOMEWHERE, but its not common like older trucks...)

Anyways. Blah blah blah. One of these days, ill sit down and go figure it out for myself. Find a factory 505hp C12 ESN, go thru cat parts, note part #s on critical parts, do the same for the 9SM, compare notes. Prob be a little while before i do that, but to me id consider that the final word... so one day ill prob do it. If/when i do, ill share results :)

Seems like CAT SIS doesn't show part numbers for military serial numbers. I have to make guesses with my C7 as it reports the serial number isn't in the system. Not sure the best way to compare?

Wonder what the difference in the armored flashes is?
The only thing I can find about the change from 220-4351 to 220-4352 is the 4352 is called "clean power".

Found this document on the "armored" flash files. I would assume both the non-armored have the same issue. regarding the internal battery.

Very very interesting, about the extended ram battery life, ill have to be thinking about / looking into that more down the road.

As for the 220-4352, my first guess (bit of a shot in the dark here) but i wonder if its a low NOx emission file? I know cat had updated flash files for lots of trucks which had lower NOx output (and often decreased performance - such as less mpg). Heard of trucks going to cat dealership fpor work, getting updated flash file uploaded, wo owners permission/knowledge sometimes... sometimes owner just figuring it out when performance seems to be off... and heard getting that reversed (old, orig flash file reloaded) could be real headache for some owners

Does that have any relevance to this particular issue?? Dunno. A big chunk of me says maybe not, since the .mil doesnt seem to give a shit about emissions in general (tho, why there is a "clean power" flash to begin w is a solid counterpoint... unless "clean" referred to somehow reducing carbon or other build up somewhere in engine...which om thinking not too likely)

FWIW, i had heard of the 220-4352 flash as being a "clean power" flash, but just hadnt given it much thought. If nothing else, ive got the 505hp cat flash (for RVs and such) in mine. One day might be running even more aggressive, custom flash... but will see. Think id prob be upgrading turbo at that point (seems to be good selection of reasonably priced appkicable turbos out there in several different configs, outputs.... taking detroit series 60 turbos is very nice thing :)

Anyways. Just a few random thoughts. If anyone has solid info on any of this i would love to hear

Not really able to find any difference in the "armored" vs normal flash files. Haven't been able to find the "updated" files that avoid the battery issue.
