Muffler on a multi-fuel...?

IMHO; I believe it is wise to not let the public hear you coming or going so I am going on the quiet tip and will be installing a muffler on a multi-Fuel.

Every truck I have with the exception of a civi truck is Diesel. They all have a muffler system and run excellent. The civi diesel trucks are not multi-fuel but they are turbo.

My question is: Is there a muffler recommended for a 1971 Multi-Fuel engine that is deigned for low on back pressure, is quiet and does not harm the engine...........?

Any info would be appreciated. I did search this before posting and I feel is a valid question.

The only muffler I know of that was part of an MWO for a turboed multifuel engine is this one. In Germany during the 70's, it became a requirement when hauling the Pershing 1A through the countryside.
I found one a couple of years ago, installed it, but have since removed it. The muffler hit an overhanging tree branch and fell off. What convinced me to leave it off was the instant improvement in response (engine)...
The muffler was made by Donaldson and is now occupying valuable storage space in the basement, meaning that I'd part with it if someone is interested.

my M109a3 is not turbo but it does have a muffler. it is under the truck behind the battery box. i don't knowhow one would affect the turbo. just telling you mine has one.

I second the Dynamax. Looks stock with the muffler hidden behind the heat shield and the difference in-cab is no earplugs and ability to communicate with a passenger in a semi-normal manner.

I use a larger muffler that is stock at the NAPA store. I have installed it on both my Deuces and I like the results. It is larger in diameter than the Dynamax but I like it. If you use it you cannot reinstall the stock heat shield due to the size of the muffler. I don't care about the heat shield. i think it looks beefy.

Hey Don, first off which turbo do you have? If it is a "C" you might consider swaping to a "D". Also Maxplank has a muffler on his but it fits behind the heat shield. If you ask he might have a pic and description of it.

Whereas the Donaldson M070028 makes the noise a lot more tolerable you're not going to be able sneak up on or away from someone with it. I think the Op is looking for something a lot quieter.

Muffler on a deuce is akin to neutering an animal.

I had a C turbo on my truck that failed, I put a D turbo on it. I kinda miss the coolness of the whistler, but it's much more drivable now.

There is no sneaking up on someone with a deuce even if its not running.
I think they make noise just sitting in the driveway.
My 109 box would heat up, boom, cool down, bang
Thats from the heat shields on the windows and the rooftop buckling in the heat.
Closing doors sounds like you are hitting a gong.
But what can I say, im installing a muffler and running my exaust out the back on my bobber. I just feel sorry for anyone tailgating me. poof cough cough.

I put a Walker big truck muffler on mine. Now I can hear the transmission, transfer case, and axles singing as I go down the road. I don't think there's anything you can do to make it quiet enough to not use some kind of hearing protection Don.

I did the Walker on mine just a couple of weeks ago. It is really nice to not have to wear hearing protection now.

C screams otherwise known as a Whistler,
D is just a turbo
You might want to look into the lizard skin and spray the cab and floors with it. Helps with the noise levels.

Elise's 109 has the straight through muffler that we got from Summit, we are thinking of double stacking them . . . there's room w/o pushing it too high. I've also fatmat'd the cab and will do the engine compartment as well, that will give me two layers on the firewall.
She still thinks it's loud compared to mine it's silent
