Hello, I'm just joining the site after regaining an interest in military vehicles. I've been aware of Steel Soldiers for years after seeing threads show up in many oddball Google searches I've had. My uncle had a bobbed Deuce (M35A2 I believe) maybe 10 or 15 years ago which started my interest, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get that one. Recently, I've been looking at M809 series 5 tons, and I wanted to gather some more info before I went out and bought one. I'll likely post a thread in "5-ton and up" here shortly with some questions that I have.

Thanks for the add!

Welcome to the Outfit!

Be sure to download the TMs (Technical Manuals) for whatever you decide to buy. They are a free download here on the site. Heck yes, post up your questions and several of the guys will most likely post up...

Thank you, I've read bits and pieces of your thread there but I'll try to give er a look from start to finish.

Having had deuces and 809series and 939series...

And having a strong preference for manual transmissions myself...

There's really a lot to be said for the bigger cab and full airbrakes on the 939s.

Drive both, before taking the plunge. There's no urgency...
That's really solid advice, I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone that has one I can drive. If I find one I like that's in running and driving condition I'd ask the owner if I can drive it. I know most sellers find people like me annoying, but I likely won't commit to buying anything the day I show up to look at it. From what I can tell, these trucks don't get bought and sold super quickly so I have been trying to be patient and make sure I'm making the right choice.
